I think that when people change the rims and mod their cars they are showing they are bored with the car they originally bought.
I was also bored with slow!! To me you live once have fun, that's what it's about............ it's not garage art, collector's item, investment potential etc.

True, that's why mine are in the basement with the original gatorbacks, and wheel sensors
To the "purists" anything changed is a "modded" car. I personally don't care about that aspect of ownership or rubbing on the paint every 5 minutes.
4. ...if I wanted C5 or C6 wheels, I'd buy the whole car
I did....three times. My saw-blades are in one of my garages.. this post has convinced me to do away with my contention to sell my 93 ruby.
I would hate to disrespect another potential Corvette buyer by selling it with the original tires and wheels from my 03 C5 that have LESS than 250 miles on them, and throwing in the blades free. SHAME ON THE MESS !
Didn't read any of this, so I may repeat. First of all I like the look of the stock sawblades. Second, I believe they're functional as brake coolers, after I wash the car if I don't let it dry good the wheels suck out the water from the back and then I have dirty water streaks straight out. So I know there's some kind of fan effect going on there.
Last, I just don't like any of the aftermarket options and the sawblade wheel to me is what makes a Corvette look like a Corvette.
Wow!
My car could be a clone of yours, except it doesn't look as good. There's a show coming up in Manassas and I have to get started cleaning and polishihg.
I have some engine and other mods and I chose to stay with sawblades because:
1) The sawblades just look darn good on these cars
2) It really is a sleeper look, even in Torch Red
ALLT4 your car looks great with the stock wheels, my opinion is your wheels and the 5 spokes look good stock, but the 84-87 are not very nice.
saw blades and the Torque thrust II's make the wheel arches look more humped drawing closer to the C3 lines, that is what gives the different look to the C4 the stock 84-87 make the vettes hood look flatter. The other mentioned above shows the curves of the car, esspecially when the vettes are moving.
My 90 does not have the stock wheels but it does have stock Vette wheels...a previous owner put 93+ sawblades on. Frankly, I like 'em. I've spent quite a bit of time looking at wheels online and at tire shops and have found almost nothing that "speaks" to me. I do like the silver (not chrome/polished/black) ZR1 wheels but not enough to switch - 11" rears would be nice tho.
My wheels are pretty dinged up tho so a nice clean set of sawblades would be cool - no chrome for this ****.
GM seemed to have put their thinking caps on for the OE wheels. They are usually lighter than the average aftermarket (ignoring the uber-$$ wheels) and the sawblades might even be functional.
IMO, wheels should complement the style of the car, not be a distraction to themselves. Some of the non-stock wheels you guys have look damn good and I'll be the first to admit it. But for my particular taste, I think the stock sawblades do a great job complementing the overall appearance of the car without distracting from it.
I also appreciate the historical context that Corvettes have always highlighted from the era they were built. Case in point is the much maligned digital gauges. Nah, they ain't classic round gauges with numbers, but remember the 1980's were all about techno-gizmos and digital gauges fit right into that, as do turbine wheels.
For me, keeping it historically correct is an important part of the Corvette ownership experience. I get alot of enjoyment from it.
Most importantly, Corvettes are all about making you feel good. So by all means, do whatever makes you feel good. Diff strokes for diff folks.
I'm doing a judging-quality restoration of my 1985, so switching wheels is not an option (in fact, I just picked up another set of the correct ones). I do enjoy looking at non-stock wheels on various C4s, though - a lot of them look really good!
I am still negotiating with the wife on whether to change out the wheels. She likes the car completely stock and for now we'll save the grand or two it would take to get wheels and tires. The 93 sawblades are bright and look great. But down the road...
I really went back and forth on this issue for my 87. The wheels are really in good shape, but I was disappointed in the tire choices for 255/50/16. This was the deciding factor for me in going to ZR-1 17" wheels. I love the new look. Still keeping the old wheels just in case.
Kinda sorta...I have stock 90 wheels on my Vette but they are from a ZR-1. My stock wheels were beat up, scored and one was warped so no big loss there. That and I love the look of the 315's on the rear with the GS Flares!
I'mleavingmy rims stock for a couple reasons. !, I don't think it's worth the expense, and 2 most importantly is that generally speaking these well designed cars that look great. I understand a few years are not as good as others. But, I have a 1996 lt4 withte dcollectors edition tagging, and the wheels are amazing, I doubt chroming it out would really make it any better.

I like the looks of the stock saw blades, I just need to spend a little more time on them, hell, if I get tired of the look, I'll just run em backwards.
Thanks for all the kind words about my car. However, did you ever notice when you look at some one elses Vette it always seems to look better than the one you got?
Like AA2PR's car a few posts up, I think that looks rockin' It seems to have just enough rake to say, "Don't mess"
