I'm going to say this with my flame suit:
I like the idea but they look like crap. Looks like (and is) cheap stucco screen.
If I did this mod I'd have to find a source for some HQ SS screen that looks more like a weave.

Its not what your trying to say its how you put it that will get you a flamin because these people took the time to do this and like it and you just come blurt out whatever.. Of course your entitled to your opinion but why try to suck the joy out of the people that like it? would it of killed ya to convey the same message or opinion without being so rude? Probably not...

I'd have to say that this post has been pretty active since I posted it last week. Or course it's not for everyone, but it looks as though enough of people expressed interest in it and have complete the mod. And most importantly they’re happy with the results.

Why don't you just post those pics of the back side... I'll take an email but it would be quicker to just post em.

TIA

Since this mod is so popular I guess you're right.
First I cut out a cardboard template,
Then another template out of the mesh for better fit,

when I cut out the actual piece I cut small tabs for mounting,

I got the 3M tape from NAPA, it's 1/2 in. wide two sided tape,

You can see I used silicone on the first piece but I didn't want to wait for cure time so I switched to the tape on the rest. I put a small piece of tape between the screen and the side cover to mount it then I covered the top again with tape for a secure hold.

The finished product,

Good luck to all who decide to do this.

WOW!
I tempered offering my opinion with the flame suit comment, said I like the idea but HATE the screen.

Sorry if you thought I was rude, wasn't meant that way.

Great idea and great idea to do it for minimal $$$ but cheap is cheap.

I have always hated after market screens that are nothing but cheap stucco screen.

To each his own, if your happy that;s all that matters

You have your right to your opinion but NOWHERE in this post does it say you HAVE to use the screen we used. It is just a very hot topic thread with instructions on how to do it. You could go out and get gold plated screen if you wanted to, none of us would mind a bit.

Agreed! And I did say I like the IDEA.

I looked at all the responses before posting and seeing that everyone that has done this mod had used the "stucco" screen which prompted my response about the choice of screen.

I wouldn't use gold screen, I'd like to see someone use some nice SS mesh as I previously said I'd like that.

BTW, great job on the tutorial pics

I also like the idea of it.
Any thoughts on using hot melt glue to hold the pieces???
Don't know just how hot that area of the compartment would get.
I imagine the 3m would work just as well though.

Thank you, and FWIW I have wanted to do this for almost a year now and have been searching for the exact screen you are describing. The drawbacks I found were cost and availability. I couldn't find anyplace that sold small pieces of ss screen, it was in large sheets that were VERY expensive and had to be truck shipped. Just to prove that I agree with you, see if you can find the material without costing an arm and a leg and I'll re-do mine.

Excellent idea. You can always look around (google) for different types of mesh material to customize your own "gills"if you are unhappy with home depot's material.

I done something similar to my vette but instead of duct tape a few daps of gorrilla glue works just fine and it holds better than tape. It can be removed if you decide that's not for you.

Look'in good! Your wheels look good too, if you can post a picture of the entire car.
