Default Battery Tender Plus C4 installation

This should be an easy one....
I just received my Battery Tender Plus yesterday. I would like to use the pig tail for the quick disconnect. I noticed that the BT+ terminal hole was smaller than the bolt for the battery. Do I just drill out the terminals to make it bigger and attach both directly to the battery, or is there a better way that you guys have found? I'd rather not use the spring clips, although they are nice to have. 86L if it matters.....

What I did on my 86 is use a dremel with a grinder tip and make the ring connectors big enough so that my battery bolts would fit through. This way I can leave it connected all the time. I also ran the pigtail out of the side fender for a quick connect with the hood closed. When not connected I can push the pigtail back in behind the side fender. I have the 96 style side fenders which make it a little tougher to reach the pigtail to pull it out. I had a picture of this in photobucket, but must have deleted it.

How much bigger is the bat bolt ?? Drill bits and terminals usually means, you end up with a twisted terminal.
A chain saw file works well on small terminals. That being said, I cut the terminals off and soldered on spring clamps.

This is a good idea. I am currently using the spring clips. I didnt have time to be jacking around with the connectors before I deployed (Iam in Iraq right now) anyways they are working its just not the way I would have prefered to do it. I love the battery tender and wish I had one 20 years ago!

Thanks- I'll Dremel away. That's a GREAT idea with using the side fender. Easy to plug in and no raising the hood. I noticed there is a cover to protect the contacts so this is all good!

I just put my 91 to bed for the winter and went through the same thing. The bolts on the battery are 3/8 Inch. I bought new connectors for the ends of the pig tail that are 3/8. Also, it was suggested that the positve battery lead should be disconnected. I elected to do this. FYI, Guys.

I also have a battery quick disconnect switch on my ground side. This is in case I park the car for a few weeks where no electricity is found. I've used it on more than one occasion.

Also good for reseting any codes that may arise.

Bought some battery term with screws on amazon.com
http://www.sjgreatdeals.com/sispbts.html
only have to unbolt screw to take off if needed, don't have to diconnect battery cables. Put the pigtail thru side vent when charging our 96 CE.

Napa sells new terminals that allow you to bolt on the eye connectors. That's what I did on both of mine.

Default battery tender

According to the instructions for the Deltran battery tender, you put a clamp on the positive and ground the negative (from the tender to the block). Is this right?? I hope. Thanks, Larry

Since I am SO smart, I just decided to fire up the old drill (instead of the Dremel like I said I was going to do ), chocked a 3/8 bit and promptly destroyed the terminal AND ripped it off the wire! I'm surprised I didn't slice my hand with my brilliance.
Those bolt on the battery lug look great- gotta get me some!

NOW YOU CAN GO TO THE STORE, AND BUT NEW TERMINAL ENDS, ALONG WITH THE CORRECT BATTERY TERMINAL , JUST TELL SOMEONE THERE WHAT YOU ARE DOING.

I terminated my battery tender with a cigarette lighter plug. When it's time to connect, I just plug it into the lighter socket. It doesn't get any easier than this...

I do the same thing. Just plug the battery tender into the cig liter. Why bother with the battery and drilling and all the rest? Too much unnecessary work.

I cut the small terminals off and crimped a larger terminal/w larger holes and permanentally attached to battery terminals. Then fed the end up by the wipers. Works good, and easy to find and connect to the Battery Tender jr. Since I store for the winter in my garage with a car cover, this works the best for me. But I like the idea about the cigarette lighter
