If C4's were not cheapies I would not have been able to afford to buy one. The prices give us financially challenged dudes a chance to drive a ride that they have always wanted to drive.
Viewing the 89 as a long term hobby project that will no doubt drive me to the poorhouse by the time its done gets me though.
After putting more moola into the thing than its possibly worth, I am destined to be driving it for a very long time.
Hell, whats a better way to spend a long, cold winter than throwing tools around the garage, bitching about how crappy the thing was designed cursing about how the previous owners put 208 K miles on it and neglected to take care of it.
C5s and C6s will cost money to keep up once they get more more miles and age. All cars do. If the current owners elect to keep them, they will have the high original cost plus the upkeep costs. If they decide to trade them in, then the high car payments continue. I rather have no payments and spend what I want when I want. Let's face it, the values of these cars will go up. I will add, my decision was not based on what I can afford, but on what I wanted. Just my 2¢ worth.

It's tiny when spread out over 5 years and doing it yourself, and some of the most expensive stuff was gotten at some deep discounts. Most of the money I have into the car is maintenance, most of the mechanicals except the motor is basically new. People don't realize the true cost of maintenance because they neglect their cars and buy the lowest quality parts they can find. Then after 10 years they have let their pride and joy slowly become a worthless POS and they want something new. Lately I've been spending more money on improving the driver, while the car has held up quite well to the abuse I've thrown at it.
In it's day the C4 was as advanced and successful against the competition as the C6 is now. Against the new cars they are old tech. enjoy your car - there wil always be something new/faster:so what!
A IBM 286 was the "top of the line computer " in 1990 also.
Now you have more power in a calculator.
Technology moves on; we have what WAS ; state of the art in it's day.

Thanks for puking out the truth, now we'll have to read 513.2 more threads on generation bashing to once again believe these cars are worth having.

Wait?
The C4 was designed to "keep out" fat chicks with the big door sills. That is why they like the hairy chested, gold chain wearing C5 guys. They have that nice low step so they can just slide in
i am a true c5 guy now but to all you c5 guys doging the c4's i have a
c4 that is just as fast as my c5 and really just as nice with very min mods. there is nothing wrong with the c4 gen. just another stepping stone to the future. just wait about another 10 years and all the c5's including mine will be dogged also...

So am I, and as soon as the C5 prices match the C4 prices Im getting one. Well, depending on which one wins the coin toss.

Better get to the garage and get back to work!
Find another car for the same amount of money that's as much fun and gets attention. $10,000-12,000 on a very nice C4, or the same money on some other used car...easy choice for me.
