C4 Exhaust thread
I ended up going with the Billy Boats because they seemed to have a lower "muscle car" sound to them. The Corsas seemed a bit louder.
Now that I have my Billy Boats - I'm kind of sad that they aren't louder. I kind of expected a bigger sound out of them.
Anyway, I love the looks of the Billy Boats and I went stainless - so I'm going to have these puppies for awhile.
This thread is looong overdue and a great start. I agree with above. I searched and searched and ended up going with the B&B 3" for my 95 vert and overall I am very satisfied. Yes they do have drone around the 1500 range but only and only when there's a low strain on the trans. If you switch to D vs OD (auto) there's barely any noise inside. Looks and stainless is why I went with the B&B and was happy to see the quality of the build when they came. Fit perfectly with no mod needed.
I was happy with the new lower old school muscle car sound but was surprised that they weren't louder outside (not much more than stock). The deep tone is a thing of beauty though and what an American car should sound like.
One of peeves about most of these exhaust discussions is about the resonance. If you don't want to hear your exhaust, save your money and stick with the more than adequate stock system. If you want power, put that money into your engine. I personally love the look and sound of the B&B and got it on sale from MidAm for 900 shipped.
Ill look around during the rest of the week! Ill try to have it up this weekend!
I made my own for now, but really want a nice full exhuast.

One thing that seems to be overlooked is that to make the exhaust sound good, you have to do the engine work. A stock LT1 running any type of cat-back/muffler elim. set up just sounds like all the redneck Silverados and Rams around here running flowmaster and borla exhausts. Stock LT1s miss that hot "lick" that most high-po engines have. It makes sense too, when you think about it, the modern GM 5.3L truck motors make more power than the LT1.
On the other hand, an LT1 with a cam/heads package sounds great, no matter what exhaust it's breathing thru.
If you wanna hot exhaust note, start with the motor, it'll sound great no matter what.

I am thinking of changing mine out as well. I just haven't decided what I want. I don't want a loud rumble. I am thinking of the high flow cat with some high flow mufflers that have a nice rumble without the lous annoying sound or the res. that goes with it.
Any suggestions other than what has been discussed?
that sweet mopar sound with the thrush, of years gone past, is sweet if I could replicate that.

I couldn't justify the aftermarket exhaust expense so here's what I did.
On my LT1 simple muffler eliminators. IMHO the resonance is very tolerable and the sound is great for a cost of about $225 installed.
When I got my ZR1 it had a Borla system that was quiet (and what a crap system it was). Since I had success with the elims on the LT1 I did the same but had them custom made and ordered Magnaflow dual tips. Total cost about $300 installed.
However, the elims didn't do the same thing for the LT5 that they did for the LT1. Lived with them for a few years until earlier this year got a shop to make me up an X pipe to replace the Borla resonator, cost $125. So now the LT5 has an X pipe past the cats and then straight pipes out the back. Great sound.
I get compliments all the time on both exhaust systems from other Corvette owners
Would it be cheaper to buy a 3"B&B system w/x pipe and put muffler elims in or to go to the local exhaust shop and get them to make me a 3" mandrel bent cat-back with an x pipe and hi flow cats (no mufflers, no resonators)?
It would be cheaper for them to make it. Better yet, buy a catback system that is just $300 (straight pipes with H instead of x) and get the exhaust place to put in an X pipe...
That should cost you no more than $400...
Thats what I would do...

Best,
Chris @ Borla
I had the Magnaflow cat back and I was not impressed. It sounded like crap and had the bad groan driving down the road. When I went through the motor last year I decided to go a different route. I went to a local muffler shop that I trust to do it the correct way and had dual 3" off the headers into a H pipe that I bought from Summit. From there it is 3" back with 3" Magnaflow race mufflers. This setup works VERY well and I have 0 groan inside the car going down the road. All together I had around 300 in the system.
Sound clip at idle. Please excuse the poor video

Chris, i updated the information to have borla's products in our exhaust thread. Thanks for the heads up and the links.
If anyone has anything else let me know!
here ya go, just type in your year and the word "corvette exhaust"
Hows resonance for a daily driver? Is it too much? How loud? Was it easy to put on (figment issues)? Is it good quality?
Have a video? That would be awesome!

Unfortunately, it's 2 3/4". Will I notice much of a difference between 2.75 and 3?
