This is by far the most informative web site I have seen. My first question, is there a keyless entry system that is affordable, easy to install or have installed, that works on an 87. Yes it has power locks. My second question, I'm done claying, cleaning, polishing and waxing. Now I want to take my rims off and clean the inside of them. They are full of dirt, grease, grime the usual stuff. Total Filth. What should I use on them? Thanks and I truly enjoy this site. I have already gotten great ideas. Todd
For my wheels, I just use normal carwash solution, and an old mit that I don't use on my car anymore. I guess any cleaner like 409 would work too, but you're gonna go through a LOT of paper towels.
The keyless entry really depends on how much you want. I haven't looked into it lately, but I remember from my last car that something like a full Viper security system with an LCD and all ran maybe $500. Forget if that was before or after install, but you can definitely get it cheaper, especially if you don't want all the fancy detectors and alarms.
Hope that helps a little bit. Welcome to the forum!
I don't know the brand, but I had remote locks installed in my 88. It does both the doors and rear hatch. This was done at a large stereo shop in Dallas and I have check the shop here in town to have one installed on my Blazer. Here for the Blazer it is less than $150 so I don't think the Vette would be any more.
I did look on 'the auction' site and found several for the Blazer. Problem is I can't get a wiring diagram for a 2004 or I would do it myself.
The 'control' box is under the drivers side dash and it only took the installer about 1/2 hour to put it in.
Suprised that nobody has said Simple Green to clean the wheels. I used it to clean up the supension a couple of years ago and it cut thru many years of road grime very easily.
The GM keyless system is the VKE 1000. I installed mine just yesterday. Works great so far...but that system has been discontinued from GM. I found a new kit on Flea Bay.
Inside of your wheels?? If they aren't real visible, Just take them off and get a scotch bright pad form the grocery store.
If they are finished and visible then any engine cleaner will soften that grime up. You have to watch out for cleaners with Phosphorous if you are dealing with aluminum. If the wheel has a clear coat of paint on it, Phosphorous will not hurt it...the trick is determining if there is a clear coat.
Check out Bulldog Security for a Keyless entry. I got mine new on Ebay with 2 relays for a whopping $20. I think they are only $50 from a dealer.
Bulldog also has details on what wire and where they are. http://www.bulldogsecurity.com/
