Default speeding ticket

god bless the mass state police (sneaky bastards) gave the batmobile her first ticket (first of the season?) maybe this breaks the ice for the rest of you and I take one for the team. 82 in a 55 and $150. maybe time to invest in radar detector. just thought id share, feel free to ridicule and remark.

For me "defensive driving" means:
1) have the radar detector (a $40 Cobra) On at all times
2) have a "point car" speed several car-lengths ahead of me as possible
3) watch the mirrors and hiding spots for the sneaky little chits

Those cops can definitely be sneaky, but Cobras aren't bad for how cheap they are. I have the $60 version and it suffices for my every-other day drives in the city.

As for defensive driving, I usually go 5 over the posted limit unless it's 55 or above in which I'll do 10. 15-25 over is just asking for it.

And sorry to hear about the ticket.

82 in a 55 and only $150.00? Not criminal speed?

Cars don't get tickets. People do. 82 in a 55 is illegal where I live too. $150 is a bargain.

Amen. That "sneaky bastard" police officer, as he calls him, just may have saved his life, or probably more importantly, somebody else's.

Wow those Mass Cops are softees. In N.Y. you get a double wammy. My daughters speeder was $300.00 from the state and then the DMV charges you another $300.00 surcharge on top of that. But the DMV is real understanding. They work out a payment plan for you and give you 3 years to pay them. Some of out parking tickets in the city are near $150.00 if you luckey enouigh to get one without getting you car towed. So if you ever visit our state, drive you Vet slow, it gets real expensive.

A radar detector is your best friend. Never leave home without it!

However, if you do pick up a radar, make sure to never leave it in your car, or at least hide it from view. One out of every five radar detectors is eventually stolen! I learned my lesson the hard way.

Two weeks after I got my 92 LT1, I wanted to see triple digits on the speedometer. On I-495 in Marlboro, with a 65 MPH speed limit, I brought it up to 102, then quickly back down. An unmarked Mass State Police van pulled up behind me with blue lights on. I felt screwed. He treated me kindly, though, saying that he was doing 90 when I was pulling away from him. He also said that if he wrote me up for anything over 90, he had to arrest me for reckless endangerment. So, he offered to give me a $275 ticket for doing 90 in a 65 zone. I thanked him profusely, and paid my dues. It took 5 years before my insurance finally went back to a cheapest rating.

You should check on your ticket to see if they charged you under Chapter 90 section 17 or section 18. Section 17 is saying your speed was unreasonable, section 18 says it was over the posted limit. If it is under 17, you can always argue that for those conditions, your speed was reasonable. If you request a hearing, you will get a hearing in front of a magistrate, the looser of the magistrate hearing can appeal to a judge. At a judge hearing, the actual cop that gave you the ticket needs to be present, they usually are getting overtime for their appearance, so they usually show up. It is usually worth going to a hearing, they seem to discount the case part of it and sometimes kill the whole thing.

X2!!! Just a bunch of sneaky revenue collectors is right. I'm sure they already have all the drug dealers and thieves in jail so they got nothing better to do

In NH at least, it's 30+ over automatic arrest.

Where in Nasha are you, Carsnguitars01? I'm in Merrimack towards the northern border, but I went to DWC and hang out in Nashua often. I think Peddlers and the rest of the bars of Main St took 1/2 my earnings last year...

Let's see......this is the last part of your first post of the thread:

Now this is your second post of the thread:

(grammatical and spelling errors corrected for free )

Funny thing to me about it is that you "had complete control". You know you did. I know you did. Everyone else here probably knows you did. I also had complete control when I did a U-turn on a slick street (at a light).......that is, until I was facing oncoming traffic. It is amazing how fast these cars can "get out from under you". everybody has complete control of their car until it gets away from them ......then....... all Hell breaks loose.

I'm not bashing you for driving faster than the speed limit. It just seems like you don't want to own up to a mistake. $150 probably is not that bad anymore. I personally do not go much faster than the speed limit in my vette (yes, I do drive it a bit faster than my other vehicles), and 82 in a 55 isn't bad (glad you didn't get hit harder than you did for it). I believe "criminal speed" in Texas is 100+. Many years ago I had an LEO write me up for 98 (instead of the 117 he clocked me at) on my bike late at night because I was very nice to him, traffic wasn't heavy and he was "to busy for the paperwork involved".

I will have to agree with Gregm999.........a radar detector is cheap compared to what you had to pay for this one (might save you from the next one).

BTW.......
1st..........In my other vehicles.........I drive 60 mph, no faster. Even in West Texas where the speed limit is 80 mph (gas mileage dictates that speed).

2nd.........might be a wise thing to listen to those of us who have a "pair" that are twice your age. Good reason ours have been around that long (and it isn't just luck).

G'day and be safe.

I've gotten warnings for faster speeds on more than one occasion.

Being polite usually helps.

But I've been nailed for 5 over too.
