I see it here and at work. The new guys/gals want to be shown what to do instead of researching the problem. If you buy a car without an owners manual, do you ask the Forum how many ways to open the rear hatch or do you get an owners manual? When you buy a car, do you know how to operate the e-brake before you drive it? If you are driving at night and a headlight-light comes on but does not flip-up would you know what to do? Jacking points, ramps....etc.
I will help anyone with a question, but if it has been answered numerous times before, this Forum will get really boring.
If a new/old member repairs his/her C4 using info learned from this Forum or research, and posts how it turned out, it will be an education to the rest of us who read 99% of the threads every day. And if you succeed at a task post a thread and tell us, it keeps the Forum new and interesting.

I will admit that I get a bit short sometimes but it is normally with the more senior members

What exactly is considered a "new member" would be my question. I have only been here for about a year so maybe I am one of the NOOBS.

IHO these same posts keep the interaction going here, or we would just look it up on google, and not be at the, just like I did for like 8 years.

I know that anyone who's been a member here for a year or longer has seen the same questions over and over again. But everyone was new here once and a lot of us have asked those same questions. The "do a search" response to a post is just rude. If that's your answer to a post, then you shouldn't waste your time writing a response. Anyone who's used the search forums feature here knows that you don't always find the answer that you're looking for. There are several good people here who answer the same questions over and over again because they know what it's like to need help with something.

I know I've made a few comments over the last year. All but one was in jest so I hope I'm not one of those "new members" you're referring to. We are very diverse group of people on here and everyone of us has a unique personality. I have found this to be a great forum and enjoy reading the posts. I'm not a mechanic and don't play one on TV but I do like to tinker and have found working on the vette very relaxing and therapeutic. Because of this site I'll work on things that I would not have ever imagined tackling before.

There was another site I joined last year that I will never sign in on anymore. All those guys ever did was throw insults. It was really disgusting.

This is probably the best forum out there. I take the trivial stuff here with a grain of salt. Most of the posts & replies are informative. Some clever and some just crack me up

Wow! I didn't know this thread would create this many responses.

I just wish people would answer members questions instead of replying with, "That's Rice, I hate Body Kits or Buy an FSM".

If you don't like a posters question, you shouldn't respond to it unless you have an answer or an opinion that's relevant to the question. Like my parents taught me, "If you don't have anything nice to say, Don't say anything at all". Well, most of the time anyways.

I've only been here for a little over a year so I guess that I'm a new member.

However I've been a member of one of the Mustang Forums for almost a decade. Things over there are much, much worse than here. It seems like a new flamewar starts daily. The FOX-body crowd vs the SN-95 crowd. The vintage crowd vs The Mustang II crowd. You get the idea.

It got so bad at one point I didn't even lurk for over 6 months.

I love CorvetteForum - I've gotten so much help getting my feet wet in spinning my own wrenchs here. For all the help and infor from searches, I am grateful.

Someone has to keep the quality of posts in check. Right now, it seems to be a free-for-all with high quantity, low quality. Obviously, this doesn’t apply to all posts/responses in the C4 section, there are plenty of knowledgeable members here that are courteous and informative; even if a questions is “entry level”. Not saying I can do a better job than the moderators, but a line has to be drawn somewhere.

It makes Corvette Forum as a whole look bad. What do the advertisers/sponsors think? Steering away future/current members is not in your investors best interest.

I am a relatively new member here and I am thankful for all the help I have received on here in this forum ...However as a new guy needing help I have experienced an "attitude" and "condesending" remarks from one senior member more than once and he always has something to say on every C4 post I guess that makes I him a "know it all" and probabally the first vette he has ever owned, but since he owns an "FSM" he thinks he deserves some kind of respect...This is my 5th vette and 2nd C4 and now, I own an FSM....So I don't think it is all newbies with an attitude or problem here.I didn't want to say anything and just let his BS slide because I am a "newbie" here ,But I do thank you for bringing this subject up and allowing me to give my 2 cents.

This is a great forum, like anything, there will be pros and cons. I’m relatively new here, but have been referencing CF for years. Many knowledgeable people here that I respect. The OP’s call to Senior Members is a indicator of growing concern.

I do thank you for volunteering your time and effort, as I mentioned above, this is a great forum and a valuable resource to the Corvette community.

And some get cranky when they don't get a instant response to their vague information about their problem.

The classics daily ;
"my car won't start, what is wrong with it?" post

Possibly due to pricing we are dealing with first car owners who have no mechanical knowledge whatsoever , no understandings of the "basics" , let alone a Vette?

This is a free site, you take the good with the bad. I have never understood the weird this is my forum by some. I don't own anything here, I just contribute when I can if and or when I fell like it. There's some good information here and a wealth of knowledge. The guys that are experts though don't spend their time on internet forums answering tech questions usually. The information here is worth alot more than the cost is the point.

with RedVette, I am new to this C4 forum as I just purchased a 92 coupe and I have been on the C3 forum for awhile with my 78 I've had for 3 plus years. I visit three other vette forums (out of respect, I won't mention them here) and they are smaller, more personable sites and I feel like I'm talking to my dysfunctional "family" as I know most of the people on these sites- that's the upside. The downside is that, because it's a smaller site, not as many new threads pop up to discuss. When I first visited the C3 forum a year ago, people seemed to be more offensive and not as helpful. Now that I've been around awhile, you kinda get a feeling for most of the members here- some good and some ok...this forum is not my life...I am actually new to forums, but with today's technology, it's great to chat with other folks who like vettes as well and occasionally I need help with a new surprise problem on my vettes- like we all do...my point is that we should all have some form of respect and resist the urge to pre- judge someone new by what questions they ask or how they respond to a member. I think this is the largest, most diverse forum I visit and, because of this, we are going to run into all types of people- you know, like in real life...if someone new has a question that's been answered before and you don't want to repeat yourself, please just give them a link (which is very helpful) or don't respond and let someone else do it...just maybe a different point of view from somewhat of a "newbie"...DDBS

OP may be onto something. That thread posted in this section where the guy was asking what a good price for his mint lt4 comes to mind. People were tearing him a new one for no reason. The guy gushed over owning it a bit, big deal. It's a mint lt4 and if we're all Vette nuts, of course we should understand the guy gushing over it a little in his post.

I took the thread for what it was: nice Corvette in great condition with pics to boot! It ended up being roughly 4 to 5 pages of arguing and razzing the guy. Sure, some people use the, "toughen up it's how it is in OT". In the same respect you could take into consideration not everyone is under 30 and up to date with "The internets", and have the ability to sift through internet sarcasm and wise guy nonsense.
