Observing new members posts.

I will help anyone with a question, but if it has been answered numerous times before, this Forum will get really boring.
If a new/old member repairs his/her C4 using info learned from this Forum or research, and posts how it turned out, it will be an education to the rest of us who read 99% of the threads every day. And if you succeed at a task post a thread and tell us, it keeps the Forum new and interesting.
IMHO

What exactly is considered a "new member" would be my question. I have only been here for about a year so maybe I am one of the NOOBS.

There are also some old members here that are rude, condencending or argumentative.
I know that anyone who's been a member here for a year or longer has seen the same questions over and over again. But everyone was new here once and a lot of us have asked those same questions. The "do a search" response to a post is just rude. If that's your answer to a post, then you shouldn't waste your time writing a response. Anyone who's used the search forums feature here knows that you don't always find the answer that you're looking for. There are several good people here who answer the same questions over and over again because they know what it's like to need help with something.

comments over the last year. All but one was in jest so I hope I'm not one of those "new members" you're referring to. We are very diverse group of people on here and everyone of us has a unique personality. I have found this to be a great forum and enjoy reading the posts. I'm not a mechanic and don't play one on TV but I do like to tinker and have found working on the vette very relaxing and therapeutic. Because of this site I'll work on things that I would not have ever imagined tackling before. There was another site I joined last year that I will never sign in on anymore. All those guys ever did was throw insults. It was really disgusting.
This is probably the best forum out there. I take the trivial stuff here with a grain of salt. Most of the posts & replies are informative. Some clever and some just crack me up

I just wish people would answer members questions instead of replying with, "That's Rice, I hate Body Kits or Buy an FSM".
If you don't like a posters question, you shouldn't respond to it unless you have an answer or an opinion that's relevant to the question. Like my parents taught me, "If you don't have anything nice to say, Don't say anything at all". Well, most of the time anyways.

However I've been a member of one of the Mustang Forums for almost a decade. Things over there are much, much worse than here. It seems like a new flamewar starts daily. The FOX-body crowd vs the SN-95 crowd. The vintage crowd vs The Mustang II crowd. You get the idea.
It got so bad at one point I didn't even lurk for over 6 months.
I love CorvetteForum - I've gotten so much help getting my feet wet in spinning my own wrenchs here. For all the help and infor from searches, I am grateful.

I’ve seen some ridiculous responses on this forum to honest questions. Seems to be the same posters, over and over again. One of the things I question about Corvette Forum is the frequency of intervention of the C4 moderators.
Someone has to keep the quality of posts in check. Right now, it seems to be a free-for-all with high quantity, low quality. Obviously, this doesn’t apply to all posts/responses in the C4 section, there are plenty of knowledgeable members here that are courteous and informative; even if a questions is “entry level”. Not saying I can do a better job than the moderators, but a line has to be drawn somewhere.
It makes Corvette Forum as a whole look bad. What do the advertisers/sponsors think? Steering away future/current members is not in your investors best interest.

If you find a thread/post inappropriate, I suggest you click on the Red Triangle "Report Post" icon on the left.

Please remember, the work by moderators is on a voluntary basis and it's not always easy to monitor every thread/post.

I do thank you for volunteering your time and effort, as I mentioned above, this is a great forum and a valuable resource to the Corvette community.

And some get cranky when they don't get a instant response to their vague information about their problem.
The classics daily ;
"my car won't start, what is wrong with it?" post
Possibly due to pricing we are dealing with first car owners who have no mechanical knowledge whatsoever , no understandings of the "basics" , let alone a Vette?
with RedVette, I am new to this C4 forum as I just purchased a 92 coupe and I have been on the C3 forum for awhile with my 78 I've had for 3 plus years. I visit three other vette forums (out of respect, I won't mention them here) and they are smaller, more personable sites and I feel like I'm talking to my dysfunctional "family" as I know most of the people on these sites- that's the upside. The downside is that, because it's a smaller site, not as many new threads pop up to discuss. When I first visited the C3 forum a year ago, people seemed to be more offensive and not as helpful. Now that I've been around awhile, you kinda get a feeling for most of the members here- some good and some ok
...this forum is not my life...I am actually new to forums, but with today's technology, it's great to chat with other folks who like vettes as well and occasionally I need help with a new surprise problem on my vettes- like we all do...my point is that we should all have some form of respect and resist the urge to pre- judge someone new by what questions they ask or how they respond to a member. I think this is the largest, most diverse forum I visit and, because of this, we are going to run into all types of people- you know, like in real life...if someone new has a question that's been answered before and you don't want to repeat yourself, please just give them a link (which is very helpful) or don't respond and let someone else do it...just maybe a different point of view from somewhat of a "newbie"...DDBS
I took the thread for what it was: nice Corvette in great condition with pics to boot! It ended up being roughly 4 to 5 pages of arguing and razzing the guy. Sure, some people use the, "toughen up it's how it is in OT". In the same respect you could take into consideration not everyone is under 30 and up to date with "The internets", and have the ability to sift through internet sarcasm and wise guy nonsense.
