yup whatever , but 2 weeks after he left his partner shot at a crime scene and dead at 24 so to him a blessing to be out of it, or you got the guy in OT claiming he has no idea why his corvette is being shot at while cruising the freeway.

Here we go....another cop basher. Hey brother, that quota thing may be true of some departments/agencies, but to say it applies to all is IGNORANT. If you think otherwise, I will personally invite you to PA for a tour.

I was going through Atlanta about a year back and it was late afternoon. The sun was setting in your face so it was hard to see too far ahead. As many know in the area, there are a lot of bridges going over the major highways in Atlanta.

Just as I got under a large bridge out of the sunlight and my eyes adjusted where I could see, there was a cop sitting propped up on his car like he was ready to snipe, only he was pointing a radar gun at all of us in traffic zipping through. Because it's so bright, you can't see what's in the darkness under the bridge until you're actually under there as well out of the setting sun but by then it's much too late, the cop had you clocked a mile away. While normally he's in easy eyesight, thanks to the setting sun you won't know he's there.

Sounds like Valdosta, Georgia.....all their traffic tickets are $100 no matter what the infraction.

I travel a good deal and drive on a lot of roads in a lot of dif areas. One thing I frequently see, especially on freeways, is drop in speed for few miles. There appears to be no perceptable safety reason for this. (I am certain that in some cases there is, I am just not aware of it.) That stretch of road is looks exactly the same as the stretch before and after.

I appreciate speed limits where it is needed, but blatent speed traps are there to catch the person who, for whatever reason, did not see the drop in speed.

Sorry, that is nothing more than a revenue generator.
If you contact dot in your state they can tell you why the limit on the road changes. They set the speed limits not the cops. Also here in Colorado "blatent speed traps" are high traffic accident areas that are caused by too much speed.

The issue I have with this trap is the officer's presence causes drivers to jam on their brakes in panic in an area where the sun is directly in drivers eyes. So much for increasing public safety. I'd imagine that would turn into a mess quickly.

Happened to a friend of mine just the other day as we were on our way to lunch!

We were in his bone stock 2001 VW golf... We passed an oncoming cop (opposite direction) and looked in the rear view to see him pulling a ABRUPT U turn cutting off many people in the process... Not seconds later gets right up on our butt tailgating BAD. lights go on and we pull over.

My friend rolls down all the windows and puts his key on the roof (we've been threw this before.) Cop asks for paperwork and my friend asks why he was being pulled over cop says "You have tinted windows on this car!" my friend politely ROLLS UP THE WINDOW and to the cops suprize. NO TINTS! The officer asks for his paperwork any how to later find out his registration had expired 5 days prior!!!!!!!!! Another cop pulls up and we new we were in for some trouble. "Well sir I wrote you a ticket for failure to produce documentation. Here is your paperwork back, and we are going to have to ask you gentelmen to step out of the car. We are impounding this vehical."!!!!!!!! My friend went NUTS! and rightfully so. We got pulled over for a bogus "charge" for a lack of better words and now they are taking the car! WHAT A WASTE OF TIME! We are both students of a small local school right down the road just out to get lunch and get popped for bad regist. Sure enough my friend called his pops and the new regist. had arrive in the mail that very same day. So we had to walk back to class in the pooring rain. My friend got a $180 summons $100 tow and I believe $50 for the storage of the car in the impound lot.

What a load. The cop couldnt give him a break for FIVE DAYS!... Sorry for venting but that kind of got under my skin... :/ I know a lot of members on these boards are police officers. But IMHO I feel that cops seem to have something to prove these days. I could understand if the cop pulled us over for tints. Saw there was none and said "sorry for the inconvenience.." But rather waste everyones time and energy with a tow. It just seems that cops are getting increasingly aggressive. What do I know Im just a kid but Im on the road a lot (over 300 miles a week)! And I obey all traffic and driving rules. But common. Tints... really... Sorry.

I saw him and looked down at my speedo saw 71 mph and was like he wont get me in traffic. That was an expensive ticket that I dont feel that I deserved. I live in Northern Kentucky and the whole area is a speed trap. They put up speed limit signs that say end 45, 35 etc. which can be confusing & you don't know what the speed limit is. Here in Independence either the city or county cops are always out with radar. When I want to go for a spirited drive in my Vette I head south on all of the twisty country roads.

I normally post over in the C3 section, but i thought i would post this story.

I read about someone who was following behind a police car down the highway. He figured since the cop's doing it, how could he get in trouble. A little while later, the cop drops back behind him and pulls him over for speeding. Turns out the cop was pacing him from the front.

now THATS sneaky.

Got pulled over once with my oldest daughter with me.. We were traveling in an 80k speed zone coming into a 60 k zone.. I was doing approx. 95 in the 80 k zone so I started to slow down, no brake just off the pedal.. Hit the 60 k sign at about 85, and saw the lights come on behind me.. At this point I was signaling to make a left hand turn.. Made the turn and pulled into my work parking lot.. Pulled over and waited for the cop.. Woman cop, wanted to know where I was going so fast. Showed her my work ID and said I was slowing down to come to work and give my daughter the vehicle.. She was at a bit of a loss and told me I should slow down sooner, and left.. My daughter laughed about it for quite a while..

I have a family full of them LOL yeah I am bashing them..
NOPE the system not the cops, soooo.....
I have been there and was in a 3 car accident and the police treated us horrible, so I am the wrong person to use that line on. I am not a cop basher, this thread is about WHAT???

BYW I have a clean record and I am smart enough to have fun at the right time and right place, after I got caught in my teens years ago.

Recently in the news you have heard about at least six officers being shot and killed with a couple of more being injured while doing their jobs which is protecting people like you. Next time you are stopped for speeding think about that and remember slowing you down is done in the interest of public safety
The cops being killed is a terrible tragedy, but is entirely irrelevant to this post.

So what if enforcement law is sneaky at times. You have the option of buying a lidar/radar detector to help warn you or you could just slow down and drive the limit.
The point of starting the thread was not to complain about "unfair" tickets - I agree that if you break the law you take your chances and are responsible for your own choices. My point was actually admiration at the cops doing something clever and unusual as opposed to just sitting there in a marked car staring at you.

I know we have some LEO's on here - hopefully they will not snap their fingers, say "That's a great one" and rush out to try it themselves!

ohio's law enforcement does not typically employ a lot of wild tactics to catch people doing stuff wrong. (except for the liquor control unit)

The craziest things Ive seen them do include:
1. regular aircraft speed traps - highway patrol (usually theres one going on somewhere 2x a week).
2. unannounced DUI checkpoints (most of the time they are announced)
3. solar-powered radar 'decoys' on I-70 around Dayton and springfield. (these are different than the typical construction sign decoys. These transmit on and off like they are instant-on radars).
4. highway patrol recent changes to vehicle type, they use SUV's now instead of crown vics. Not sure why they changed.
5. part-time cops sit in unusual places to run radar for hick towns. (they will be 100% hidden).

Honestly, we're blessed to not have some of the over-zealous police tactics, for simple traffic offenses, that other states have.
