Stoplight Traffic Cameras: Why Is Big Brother Ticketing You?
"In my book, these instruments of the devil are just a tax on drivers." The American Automobile Association and the National Motorists Association agree, and opposition has led several states to enact laws restricting the use of traffic cameras.

Smile, You're Busted
When a vehicle enters an intersection, it trips induction sensors, which in turn trigger a camera to take both wide-angle and closeup shots of the violation. ILLUSTRATION BY FLYING-CHILLI.COM
If voters don't make politicians rethink these automated cops, perhaps lawyers and political opponents will. Otherwise, get used to Big Brother watching you. And mailing you a ticket.

I usually try to avoid any streets that have these cameras. Of course that limits what routes I can take. If I have to use them I either floor it as I aproach or find my self staring at the light so I can slam on the brakes at the last minute. Yeah thats real safe.

In my area they warned us and told us they will be cracking down, LOL what do you know!! Why is anybody here standing up for or justifying the actions of the law enforcment about traffic. the posts here show overall or in general most people understand it is about money, and it is what it is PERIOD. This debate is foolish they don't hide the fact they like traffic violations, the same reason prohabition ended they lost BILLONS a year, for several years.
So yeah, there's BS on the forum. From YOU.

Of COURSE it was. Facts are very hard to dispute!
I got my CCW, because there are plenty of documented cases (in addition to those you blithely ignored, above), where LEOs are no longer the solution, but one more part of the problem.
Don't like it? Fine. At least we agree on that.
The reality is that firearms sales are going crazy, all over the country... and groups of people, determined to preserve what they have (you know, the people you condescendingly refer to as "vigilantes") are forming all OVER the country, to do the job that your ilk refuse to do.
WHY? Because Americans are waking up to the fact that LEOs, or at least a significant number of them, are THUGS.
If you don't like that label, then I invite you to find another line of work, that doesn't involve lining up at the government teat (OUR money). Or, in the alternative, run the bad-apples out of town on a rusty rail...
Until then... well, let's just say I'm NOT gonna' be one of the cowed little sheeple, that kisses your ring.
They refused, due to liability risk issues... I asked them if they'd prefer to be held liable, when one of the neighbor-kids gets splattered when one of the ricers loses control....?!?!?!?
They also refused to send patrol-cars through...

Finally, after weeks of tolerating this, every Friday and Saturday night, I called the local PD, told them to come run the knuckleheads out... Or send a meatwagon, since I'm a good shot with my Kimber...
They were there within 5 minutes.

After that, the kiddies went somewhere else...
i use to live in philly and i stand by my point. its about the money that is why they never lower the fines but will easily and readily lower the infraction and points.
in colorado they lowered the speed limits insisting that it was in need of safety from 30 to 25 in residential areas. of course thay had absolutely no evidence to back up it being a safety issue. however, during the next 6 months revenue from speeding tickets increased 600%. its about the money...
As far as the speed limit goes, if you want to bitch about the slow limit then talk to your local congressman. Cops have nothing to do with speed limit.
A few years back we had an 8 mile stretch of interstate reduced from 65 to 55mph. The prior year, we had 12 fatal crashes along that same 8 mile stretch. Just an example of why some limits are reduced.

If one of you get cited for speeding then slow down. If you get cited for running a red light then be more observant. Quit making excuses.
Lastly, how on earth did we stray so far from the OP?
Last week a friend saw about 4 or 5 cop cars lined up at the end of his street, where it comes into a main drag. It was a nice day so he took a walk. About 2 blocks down there was an old junker parked by another side street, and in front of it was a "surveyor" - complete with orange vest, white hard hat and a tripod. But the thing on the tripod was NOT a transit!
There was another guy (cop) in the junker and the "surveyor" was calling out speeds to him and he would no doubt radio the "stoppers". Since cell phone use while driving is banned here they were probably after that, too.The other was a couple years ago and was in a construction zone. Things were single lane in my direction and down to a crawl. I saw a guy in a sport shirt leaning against a telephone pole as traffic went slowly by. I saw him turn away and it looked like he said something into his hand. As I went by I saw he had a walkie-talkie but was keeping it by his side, hidden. Sure enough - about a quarter mile down the road were a couple marked cars and they pointed and pulled over the car about 2 or 3 ahead of me. Probably no seat belt or using a cell phone, and nobody suspected the casually-dressed guy leaning against the pole!
back on track
So what do we do?
Better designed highways and local roads would help.
Fewer posted speed limits could be an option.
Police trained to "protect and serve" someone other than theirselves might help.
I think I'm going to use some of my local political contacts to start moving on this.
Maybe some of you could do the same.
However, in defense of Law Enforcement, last summer, there were over a half dozen traffic fatalities in just the two suburban municipalities near my home last summer alone involving street racing and high speed driving. Two of those dead were innocent by standers, not the participants. These were not all teenagers either.
I agree that officers in view are better to prevent speeding, and that tactic is commonly used. But they also need the speed trap to catch the real offenders. These are the people that will slow down and wave at cop sitting at the intersection, then floor it as the cop is out of sight. This is the person that speeds over a hill and broadsides a minivan full of kids at 80 mph. So, if the thought that there might be a speed trap over the next hill makes this guy think twice about hitting the hill at 80, the trap has done its job.
