I had a hard time reading your post for obvious reasons. However, there were more rubies made that year than any other color. Rare? Not even close. The anniversary package included the side badge and MAROON paint, maroon interior, that's it. I've seen anniversaries with half the options my car has. This in a lot of peoples opinions is in the top five of ugliest colors every produced. Chevy missed the boat on this one completely. Why on earth would you think for a second these would fetch more money that any other color that year? This battle will rage on for ever but in the end, it's his car and can do as he See's fit. Poser? No way.
Here's a picture of the "rare" ruby side stepper. Would you pay extra for the ruby color and two 50 dollar badges? Me either.
one of the biggest benefits you will see by adding the badges is people will stop asking you what year it is..
Funny how the "UGLIEST" color Z25 option outsold every other special production Corvette ever offered.
I guess a lot of people are color blind!!!!!!!
How did this turn into a thread taking potshots at Rubies? FYI - The cloth seats didn't have the "40th", but all other seats did in 93. If it's not your favorite color, then don't buy one. As a Ruby owner I'm not offended if you want to put the 40th badges on the side. At least it's correct for the year. And to the guy calling it Maroon, it's Ruby Red. the least we can do is to keep GM's color naming scheme accurate. I don't call Quasar Blue, Smurf Blue. Ruby is the 40th anniversary stone, which is the reason for the color.
The Ruby club is a special group that now can't find ruby interior parts cheaply, (like side bolsters). If you really want to experience the anniversary package, just pay twice as much for center caps for your sawblades.
1 car was produced and survived in 83 extending the product line. It was at the NCM last time I was there. Does that validate the production year?
My vote for whether these came from the factory with side badges is unlikely, but we've seen GM produce special 1 off orders in the past, and dealers could have easily made this happen.
I get flamed every time I answer this one, but what the heck, I haven't been roasted for a while so here goes. I work for MAC Tools and spend a considerable amount of time in new car dealerships. This includes the highest volume Corvette dealers in both Salt Lake City and Las Vegas and I have asked them both this question as my 93 has 40th emblems on it as well and it's not a Ruby. The sales Managers at both of these dealerships told me that some non-Ruby 93s did come in with 40th emblems. There was no rhyme or reason as to why some just showed up that way. They were not ordered with them but some did come in. The dealership here in SLC worked on mine and the guy that works on Corvettes said mine were factory installed, although I don't know how he knew, let's face it a hole is a hole. I have no other information besides what these two told me.
Ok, flame away.............
I have an actual Ruby Red 40th and your fender badges are too low so I am positive these were not put on at the factory.
Hmm, Another fender fraudster here. All we who ever have these 40th badged cars wanted to know is "Who done it"? When I bought this car the badge was never brought up, and I never even noticed it until I got the car. The 2nd before me, owner seller was a realist, and honest, but another story. But showing it around, all I ever see is "shrug", even to a true Ruby guy. I think its cool and who really knows. Anyways I decided its never coming off, I did both the front and rear OEM badges and that old gasket goop does a NUMBER on the paint, but the replacement front and rears, do fully cover the finish burn through on from the old adhesive. Is what it is. A true 40 year forward and 30 years beyond mystery. A fun mystery. I am guessing a over enthused sales manager, or the one off owner who just thought better than the GM branding unit. Why they where freely for sale at MY release, who can say.
