...I'm the kind that took the 96 to a show straight off of the track with oil sprayed under the hood (from a busted line) and rubber stuck all over the nose.
And the NCRS "Top Flight" guy beside me never said a word to me the whole time.

I am a Corvette Newbie and proud of it! I bought my Vette last Wednesday. It is a 1992 Coupe, black with black Grand Sport Ralley wheels. I have always been a huge Knight Rider fan, and if KITT had been a Corvette, he'd look just like my Vette.
I have a dilemma I wanted to run by you guys. When I bought the the Vette, it had 2 red stripes on the left front fender. The dealer didn't really know what he was talking about and told me that the previous owner put those on to be a replica pace car. Well, after doing some research, I know that the "hash marks" are a trademark of the 1996 Grand Sport. I love the Grand Sport wheels but I have a problem with the hash marks. I plan to join my local Corvette Club, and I'm thinking that I don't want my Vette to be a "Wanna Be Grand Sport" Everyone knows that the Grand Sport was made in 1996, not 1992. Am I being too critical? I haven't removed the hash marks yet. Let me know what ya'll think.
Thanks,
John in San Antonio
Nice looking Vette! Do you like the hash marks? If you like the way it looks then keep them. If not, well, good luck getting them off!
I wouldnt worry about the wanna be stuff. The GS was Blue with a white stripe and the red hash marks, it looks nothing like your Vette!

Yep if you like it leave it.. every "car culture" has its group of "you ruined that car its not original" folks.... the 1938 dodge business coupe is an example.its a fairly rare car today any way and( they refuse to listen to the fact that it was a rusted hulk in a field.) the Mopar guys get mad cause its got a small block ford in it. the orginal guys are mad because I "HACKED UP" a running original (we call it a streetrod..) so to each his own. Make it what you want and enjoy.
