Default Breadbox delete panel survey

I'm considering to have this breadbox delete panel repo'd.
The cost of the part is to be determined.
The plan is to not include the word "Corvette" due to licensing.

Your thoughts and suggestions are welcome.

I can't buy one now, but I will eventually. I do think the corvette symbol is a bit much, but just a blank panel is too little. I like the "corvette" the same as the bread box like you have pictured. The only way I would get a blank one would be a huge price cut. Like 30 bucks maybe 40 shipped to my door. I know that's hard to do with such a specific aftermarket part to such a select client.

I went so far as purchasing one of the discontinued kits that also was hinged to open like a glovebox door, I believe the maker was Fox?? I never did put it on because I just don't like the flat look for some reason. Good luck in your venture if you decide to do it.

I made my own for the 87 I used to have. Wish I had never done it though as I like the look of the original. The kid that owns the car now has put it all back to stock. I bet he cussed me when he saw how I Bubba'd the removal. I just bent the lower tabs back and forth until they broke off.

I'm **** about originality, so the breadloaf delete is a sacriledge to me. To each his own.

If you've yet to see/make one, know that it needs to be thick and/or multi-layered. Multi-layered is probably better to resist warpage.

My kit came with 3 pieces. The face plate and two masonite backing pieces. There's also a bit of modification necessary to install the A/C vent. Basically, you have to cut out a section of the accordian hose and overlap it back together.

Here's mine....

Notice my kit had a couple of extra holes along the bottom edge. This may prevent warping.

I went so far as to angle-cut the duct frame to get the best fit. (Hard to describe but I didn't take a picture.) Four pieces of Double-sided tape should have been provided to hold the vent in place.

Offering your kit with optional finishes might be worth considering. Maybe di-noc? Whatever feedback tells you.

I'm thinking a match of speedo bezel and PS flat dash material would look best. Then have the center console in contrasting material. For example, in corvetteronw's pic, a white speedo bezel may have looked more balanced. (OTOH, it kinda makes it look more like a cockpit -- like the LT cars.)

madvet has a version of the delete panel for 50 bucks. I'm figuring to keep the final price at this or below if the production cost will allow. Not trying to make a million but to clear enough for another C4 part adventure.

Right now I'm building a touch screen PC to mount in the panel. Can't say when it'll be done. But it will look OEM.

Sounds really interesting!

How do you think the PC will handle all of the in-dash heat? It's gotta get warm in there, and i know my desktop PC doesn't like heat very much. (Can't OC the damn thing over 3.2 ghz....)

If you could make one with no vent opening i would buy one. I've deleted the vents on both sides to make room for car audio equipment. I'm looking for a plain flat panel to fill the hole left by the bread box.

The monitor will have a small fan and vent into the inst panel. The PC will be remote from behind the seats somewhere.

As for the vent delete I'll look into it

This sounds interesting but the breadbox area is too far away for it to be usefull for the driver. What do you envision doing with the PC? Obviously don't want folks checking their email while driving. Being able to use it for gps navigation, entertainment and/or OBDI/OBDII engine & performance monitoring would be cool.

I agree with HP Bushrod......trying to keep my old girl as close to original as possible. My nephew will eventually get my '87 and then he can do as he wishes.

I made my own breadbox delete piece:

Its makes the interior feel less cramped and slightly more modern.

My 84 has the original impact resistor but my 85 vette has a glove box flat panel. I have never seen another one with the glove box.

Very nice. All of those mfgrs are gone now.

Would you spend 150 bucks for a non-functional bumper g-box?

Man...I like everything about your interior. The gauges, color-matched seats, steering wheel, etc...

The only thing that looks a little out of place is the two smaller, round gauges in the old info center. Looks like trying to fit a round peg in a square hole.

Is the flat panel made from masonite.
