Looking good. I'll be curious how they fit sensors for your stock gauges and the starter, since those large can cats seem to be in the way of everything.
I'm told it was a tight fit. All the welding was done a week or two ago but the final install was delayed so they'd have room to install the temp and oil pressure sensors. The wires for the O2 sensors are a bit long, but shouldn't be cut & soldered, so will have to be wrapped/taped up and safely tucked away.
The cat is rubbing against wiring, auto tranny lines, and heat shield. I hope your mechanic fixes this before you drive off the shop because if you don't it will drone, rattle and burn the wiring.
You have been thru hell with this project, I hope it is done before New Years.
No worries, he warned me there were a few loose wires etc. in the pictures & he'd be tidying things up.
I'm not sure h-e-double-tooth-picks is quite apt. Sure, it's taken longer than hoped, but we've been in touch throughout & I understand the delays. I believe the work is being done well, and in the end that's what matters.
The only thing that concern's me is the smog inspection. Everything is being done as close to the installation instructions as possible, but... If that goes south I'll be swearing along with all of you, and my ire will likely be directed in-state, not at my friends in their un-disclosed location.
I'm not namin' any names, but just noticed somebody has a new gallery titled
"LS3/4L70E Conversion into an '87 vette" on Facebook with this nifty side-by-side picture:

Just spoke with the shop & was told the wires and tranny lines shown in the pics will indeed be secured further away from the CATs and there are no metal-to-metal contacts to any heat shields.
I have been quietly watching this thread and firstly, I am impressed at your patients and your shops persistence to work with you on this project.
A friend of mine here in Australia (who is handy at wrenching and has done a few engine swaps including mod motors) keeps saying an LS swap in a C4 is "not" that hard. Looks to be very pain staking.
How far do you expect from the first "shake down" drive to ensure everything fits nicely and runs good?
First start is imminant---they're finalizing the wiring & keep getting sent the wrong pins for the bulkhead connector (they order the right thing but the wrong part shows up, d'oh!).
After that there's still the AC and air intake issues.
I'd be very interested in seeing the results of this project in person.
We've got an '86 that's been through the ringer (sis has had it for a few years and has utterly trashed the poor thing). Whenever she's done with it and my dad doesn't want to deal with it any more, it's going to be mine again, and a LS swap is something I've wanted to do for a while.
