I'm all for a good joke but when you mess with someones car you are crossing the line! What the hell was he thinking. He surely cant deny it. It is a shame he has put you in this position because of his stupidity. No matter what happens I'm sure the work environment will be a little tense. Did he apoligize and offer to pay? If not then you will have to get nasty. If he fires you I would consult a good attorney and nail him. All you have to do is show the tape. WHAT an IDIOT!! Good Luck, Guy
I say get some estimates and take his fat a** to court & of course make sure the CEO hears about the lawsuit - maybe then the jacka** won't think it is all that funny. I'm amazed that the guy is still around for you to sue. He'd be hurtin' if it were my car. BTW my car has the same cracks in the same places, but I got mine that way... I am waiting on a new paintjob before I replace the hood... hope it doesn't cost alot.
Well I've taken it to a few places today (took the day off work sick, cos I think i'd have ripped his head off if I'd gone in), and the consensus is that it'll cost about $700 to repair and repaint. That's providing the fiberglass hasn't been damaged too much.
Also, I got an email from the perpitrator today...
Again, I apologize. Your reaction was a total shock to me. Now, I
understand it more but believe me, I certainly did not mean any harm. When
you are less angry, I hope we can talk about this.
The "friends" that stood around and even filmed him doing it said that they tried to talk him out of .it :bs Also they said it didn't look damaged but they weren't sure what it looked like before :mad
I don't know what to say... I don't know what I would do but I can tell you one thing that everyone in the building would have heard me giving that dippoopie a piece of my mind....
"your reaction was a total shock to me" What in the hell!!! How else do you think someone would react... Oh thank you for allowing your body to flatten my hood. I always wanted a cracked/vented hood..
I would have the car fix and drop the bill in his in box... if he doesn't pay go to HR with the video.... Were do you work?
how did you get the video?? did they e-mail it to you??

I would have freaked the hell out!!!!  He needs to pay for whatever you have or want done, IMO....it's his fault and he can't give you but so much grief I wouldn't think? But I dunno...hope you get it resolved soon :(.

I have to work with these idiots :(
Just because a person is stupid, it doesn't mean that they are a bad person. The tone of his email sounds sincere. If he agrees to pay for the repair, forget about it as he is being a stand up guy. (Providing he actually does of course)
Covering just the deductible is another option, if you are so inclined.
If not try to work it out with the employer. See what action they take. Ultimately if he was on the clock they are responsible. But be nice and careful because of your visa situation. You know the politics at work better than any of us.
I agree that cracks mean 'new hood'. I've got a crack about 2" long in the center of my hood, starting at the windshield. I don't think there's an easy way to fix it short of gouging out that section, filling it in with new resin, and forming it back down and repainting.
On my car, a repaint of the hood would mean a repaint of the whole car, because it wouldn't so to have a shiny black hood and slightly gray rest of car.
I say get it fixed by a competent body shop...and blending the color will be almost impossible, so your going to have to pay some bucks, send him the bill.
If he does not pay, take it to small claims court, get a lein against his house. He will pay...and if he fires you, sue the SOB for wrongful termination.
Basically, you've found yourself in a position where you can do no wrong...and if your boss is smart, he will know this as well.
I haven't read every response so I hope I'm not touching on something already said.
Why don't you just go talk to the guy??? Tell him you saw the video and checked for damage. Tell him there are some cracks in the paint and that you'd like to have them repaired because he caused them? I mean seriously, how could he say no to paying for them???
and blending the color will be almost impossible
I disagree completely with this... it's not hard to blend paint anymore, it's very common in repair orders. I was literally just talking about this yesterday with a body shop owner and am confident that if you take it to a reputable shop that you won't have any problems.
