So I got this email from him after leaving my quotes on his desk.
Looks like he wants to do this via his insurance, but won't that flag that my car has been in a collision? If that's the case then my already high insurance will increase right? And the value of the car will go down significantly.
Please advise
I was really hoping that you could get past your anger towards me based on past history. I don't think I've done anything in the past that you can point to that would show you that I am anything but friendly and respectful towards you and your wife.
Other than that, I'm angry with myself that I didn't even consider the fact that I could damage the car in any way. My experience with cars has been very different to yours.
I told you I would fix any damage and intend to stick to that. I've already contacted my insurance agent but haven't given him any details.
This is sucky in so many ways. I know I've inconvenienced you and am really sorry. Please know that this is a big hassle and going to be expensive for me as well. A $250 deductible would be a lot nicer to pay than $700.
But again, the important thing here is that you know I did not do this with any malice towards you.
I say get it fixed by a competent body shop...and blending the color will be almost impossible, so your going to have to pay some bucks, send him the bill.
If he does not pay, take it to small claims court, get a lein against his house. He will pay...and if he fires you, sue the SOB for wrongful termination.
Basically, you've found yourself in a position where you can do no wrong...and if your boss is smart, he will know this as well.
He's right get it fixed to your satisfaction, you shouldn't have to buy a different car if you don't want to. Your insurance rates shouldn't go up because it's his insurance company thats going to pay.
The guy made a stupid move, we all do that from time to time. Sounds like he wants to pay for the damage so let him. Get a new hood. Things are on your side having that video. If he pays as it sounds like he sincerely wants to, forgive and forget, sounds like he is sorry, a sorry dumbazz that is
I'm still pretty mad at the guy for doing this, but my priority is to get the situation resolved. Then we can work on being friends again.
If it won't affect my insurance or flag my car as being involved in a collision, then I'm happy to do it all through his insurance as long as it's quick. That way I'll at least get a rental car while mine is the the shop for 3-5 days.
The other thing I wanted to ask was about the repair - one GM dealer just wants to repair and repaint the hood, another more expensive place (not a dealer) want's to blend into the doors and bumper too.
Which method will look the best? And will the new shiny hood stick out like a sore thumb on my not-so-shiny car?
The GM dealer said that I could have a complete repaint for about $3K, but I'm unlikely to get his insurance to pay for that.
It's already been repainted at some point in its life (badly by the look of it), from a few feet away it looks nice, but on closer inspection there are bits of grit & hairs here and there, and even a couple of runs at the bottom of the fender panel. So another option might be to have the fiberglass (or compsite resin - or whatever the hood is made of) repaired, and then get a $500 paint job at macco for the whole car. Yeah it won't be perfect, but it's far from perfect now. Not sure how I could do that via his insurance though.

Your car WAS legally parked... therefore Your Rates SHOULD be unaffected.
The guys a middle manager and has a boss. When your in management your supposed to have gotten there because your the guy that has to make decisions. This was a bad decision. I expect that his boss would frown upon his decision making at this time, hence the nice e-mails and offer to repair.
First I would get it fixed to my satifaction (whatever it takes) and have him foot the bill. (Make nice)
Second I would line up some possible jobs ( this is going to leave a bad tast in his mouth). He will settle now, but the guy has already proved himself to be a moron. He will make your life hell down the road and you will quit or be terminated. Believe it!
Third, after you've done the first two items, I would go to his superiors and lay out what happened . Use all the info you have ., mainly the video. Explain to them how you really enjoy working there but you fear repercussions from this man. If he stupped to this, what is next, bodily harm? I guarantee you they won't want any of this and will punish the offender, and this will give you an umbrella of safty.
I'm a con artist and have experience with this:

Re: Damage (November Soul)
That would make me :mad :mad :mad
Make him pay........ If he won't then you should turn it into your works insurance, because he is a representative of the company they should have insurance to cover accidents....... :D
Make sure that when it does go into the shop that you get a rental car at his insurance companies expense while your vehicle is in the shop.......
It will not afeect your insurance at all..if you want to be on the safe side call your insurance representative and explain to them exactly what happened and let them know that this guy is taking care of it through his insurance company~Since his insurance is taking care of it, handle it like any other insurance claim and leave the anger out of it...anger only brings you down to his level...Good luck to you~ ;) ;) ;)
Have you gotten an actual estimate? Just wondering how much $$$ in damage. When my car got backed into and cracked the hood right above the wheel on the driver side (my 87, not current car), they would not give me a new hood. :( But I got it fixed and hood painted, blended onto the doors. Paint looked great but you could always kinda tell where the repair was in the right light.
Putting it through insurance will not make you happy. Jerry, my agent, said it wasn't likely that I caused the damage.
Here's what I want from you. If I bring in a check tomorrow for the full amount, I want you to be happy. I want you to be everyone's friend. Rob and Chris are not partially responsible! They were there and that's it. Friends are more important than cars. I want you to admit that. Look around you. You've got a great job, you live where it's sunny and warm and you've got some great friends. Be happy and put this all behind you.
I know we've only been friends for a short time but I'm put off that you are angry at me for an error in judgment.
If I write you a check, I don't want it to go part of the way to fixing things, it needs to go all the way. I've been ready to write a check, but I won't write one to an angry man.
What do you say?
Paul
So looks to me like he's trying to say that he's not responsible but will pay anyway - or am I just jaded by my anger?
Also, on average, how close are quotes to the real cost of repair? He want's to give me a check for the lowest quote I got, but if it turns out more that that, I'm still gonna be out of pocket.
