Yep, sounds to me that he is trying to turn it back on you, saying you shouldn't be mad about it and that he probably didn't cause the damage. Yeah right! That is like when the shipper dropped my car and cracked the floorboards, he tried to say he didn't cause it, and I was like, dude you just dropped the front end of my car a 1-2 feet and the floorboards are cracked, and it's unrelated?? If he is going to write you a check for the damage then he is essentially admitting guilt although trying to disguise that admission by trying to make you look like the bad guy....oh poor him for someone being mad at him for doing something dumb and damaging your Vette. All of a sudden the tone of his message changed - as in the previous ones he is all nice and appologetic and admits everything. He talked to his agent who fed him BS and got him thinking now he's not at fault because they don't wanna pay! Just get a few friends or people who have seen your car to make statements that the damage was not pre-existing. I would make him give you a check for the bodyshop of YOUR CHOICE which will repair it, however much it is. It will most likely be $1000+ for fiberglass repair and paint. Mine was, and it was just small cracks. He sounds like a peen to me. :cuss
With video of the incident, I don't think it is HIS decision to decide what quote to pay for. YOU need to tell him to pay the HIGHEST quote, and you can refund any extra money should there be any!!
Your choice I would think. Don't settle for the bare minimum, you want your car restored to its original condition....I know it's hard because it's your boss, but it's still his fault and how great that you have it on video!
He's made good, I got got a check for $700 from him this morning. All is well again.
It's got me thinking though, the car has already been repainted once (badly), I can get the whole thing re-done at maaco or the equivilent for less than that - whaddya think?

get it done right. you have th video, get a lawyer if needed and maybe that will convince him to pay up. explain the complete situation to the lawyer and you can't lose, or get fired. oh yea the file name is a HOOT ! (a**hole.avi !!)
oh yea, DON"T go to maaco. go to a shop with vette experience. you are concerned about hurting the value , get the best job possible.
Don't go to Macco, You think the car was painted badly B4?? They prolly did it!!
Anyway you won't be happy with it. Use the money to get the car fixed, then do the Bloodline a favor and get the car repainted and some of the other things that need done. You'll be much happier!
Also it sounds like you've blown off yuor steam a bit as well, maybe shown your butt as well. Calm down and allow his mistake, being overly pissed will create problems for you with him in the future. Possibly other people with the company that also think your over reacting. We don't know the whole situation obviuosly so I'm speculating, I'd be pissed as well, BUT.....
I tried to take some pictures, but I couldn't get the camera to focus on the cracks :( - and the light was in the way. The cracks don't seem that deep, but you certainly feel 'em with your thumbnail!
Anyway, I'm taking it down to Courtesey Chevrolet in Thousand Oaks first thing in the morning, hopefully they'll do a decent job.
(BTW: Bill, didn't you used to work with Ian Sabine?)
I've been following this post since it started, and I just have to say that if I didn't see the video, I would not have believed that someone would do such a thing as fall on the hood of a vette like that on purpose. What an a-hole. That said, what about having the body shop buff the rest of the car when they paint the hood? I had that done to my red blazer awhile back, and it looked like it had just been repainted. Just an idea. good luck! :seeya
I'm glad that the dude stood up like a man and paid you. He may be dumb, but he is not a complete a-hole.
You did the right thing too, by not trying to milk him. I am sure that kind of money is significant to him and his family.
Some people might still run the claim through their insurance anyway and in effect be $200 ahead based on a $500 deductible. Which could of course pay a little more towards repairing the old bad paint. But I'm sure you wouldn't think of such a thing :blueangel: Toss in a few more bucks and your Vette is much nicer than before. :D
