Electric and Gas motors (see what I did there? :-P) both convert external energy to do work. One is with magnets using the electricity and the other is with controlled explosions using gasoline.
I will say this though, I've never heard an electric motor called an electric engine. But that doesn't mean the engine in our car isn't also a motor.

Reason: *Originally I mentioned AC for the motors since that's what Tesla uses, but there are DC motors. :-D

When I was in automotive tech school back in the day, my engines teacher would go ballistic on you if you said motor when you should say engine... I guess it just stuck with me...

My wife does the same thing when I call "custard" "ice cream". I don't care what it is, it's all tastes delicious when I'm watching a movie. :-D

Sure, but that doesn't mean there aren't multiple names for some things. I call my truck a vehicle, even though my coupe is also a vehicle. You guys should call Motor Trend and General Motors and tell them their name is all screwed up and doesn't represent their market very well. :-P For that matter, all of the "Department of Motor Vehicles" should also have their names changed.

I hate when I list a car with the mileage and people still ask me what the mileage is.
Or when I list an asking price and they immediately ask (before anything else) what the lowest I'll take is.

My car has 120,000 original miles... as apposed to non original miles??
Bottom line on motors vs engines... call it what you like... .. A motor requires an outside force to make motion (aka electricity, voltage) Like the starter motor in your car needs 12 volts to move it... An engine makes its own power without an outside force.
Yeah...I've never understood that one...just use blue masking tape...
No need to cover the plate, it is fully visible to the public when you drive and DMVs don't just hand out info given a license number. People think they are protecting their privacy or whatever. I don't get it.
When people use the word "ignorant" in place of "rude". They are 2 different things. Although it could be said that in some instances when someone has displayed behavior that seems rude there is is a possibility that they simply "lack knowledge" of proper behavior or eticate. But I find that to be extremely rare. Most times when someone calls another "ignorant" it is done in a complaining manor with disdaine because the other person has been "rude" on purpose or is just selfish. Rude people are just that...rude. Ignorant people just lack knowledge on something.
It's a way to say "I'm more knowledgeable than you" but if you understand what I understand, you'd agree with me. I might understand your point but it doesn't mean I have to agree with you. Still it is a "polite" way of saying 'I'm better than you" and trying to sound humble at the same time.
