My pet peeve has to do with the way people drive. When two cars are side by side in parallel lanes, and one car needs to merge -- they speed up, cut in front (of me), and hit their brakes. Wouldn't it make more sense to slow down and then tuck in behind me?
Since it happens all the time, I must be wrong.
That behavior goes along with the whole "me first, screw everyone else" attitude that I see all the time. And not just on the roads.

And you are surprised? Did you really drink all that CoolAid about how we need to take care of other people, don't be selfish, etc, etc? We don't live in a fairy tale world regardless of what you were told when you were young. It has been that way for as long as you care to look back in history. It is easier to see today because of the internet and other means of communication. People say many nice things, believe in few of them and do even fewer.

Assuming you won't slow down and signal if you are turning off, sure. Jumping in front of you may **** you off but it ensures that they get what they want instead of leaving it to chance. It is the way it is. Accept it and not be disappointed or not. Choice is yours.

When my 2 sons and I visited the US last year, we chatted with a US guy on the shuttle bus to the car rental depot who told us the all the drivers over here are courteous and considerate.........what a crock!
We experienced the usual cars cutting in on the freeways and interstates and not giving way that we have at home, the only difference is that we didn't see anyone reacting by blasting their horn or gesticulating presumably because the offending driver might have a gun under his seat and be prepared to use it.

I have also a bridge to sell. One owner, will only do cash. Well maintained too. People will be people regardless of what part of the world. They might be more polite about it when you get the shaft but you are going to get the shaft if they can regardless of what they say. Surely you don't believe the slogans of "we put the customer first" do you? Don't eat the menu.
They do say an armed society is a more polite society. They also said that the bigger the smile, the sharper the knife in DS9.

Jesus, dude, chill. Where did I say that I am surprised?
Regarding the Cool-Aid and "fairy tale world" references, yes some people actually do choose to make a difference (action) and be a good example. Yes, it is much more work to consistently be a positive influence, but I am not a lazy person. I know many others like myself who care about the way we impact other people. Nobody lives in a vacuum. This is not just talk, it's not merely belief, we take positive action. We are hopeful that things will change for the better, but we don't expect anything in return for what we do. We may never see the results of our efforts, but it still matters.
Yes the world has been full of crappy people forever, and these little conversations are great reminders.
In the end, I agree with your points and your description of many people in the world. Agreeing with you does not mean that I need to give up and have a sour attitude about life. Let's just try not to make the world any worse than it is, OK? Thanks.
#1; How much is my C4 worth
#2; You must be loaded to drive a Vette, and you have 2!
#3; Premium gas gives me better mileage (particularly with an FI car).
#4; You ride a motorcycle, do you ride a Harley?
#5; Oh, you ride a "murdercycle". or a "donorcycle". Folks, get over it!!!

Well, if you expect nothing, you won't be disappointed. In a way, I have lowered my expectations to the point that you'd have to work really hard to disappoint me. I don't disagree you are doing something. I don't disagree it is hard work. What I tend to question is what the point of doing something with little to no ROI? What is the point of expanding 10 units of energy to get 2?
Yes and it will continue to be full of crappy people. It is like the parable of the scorpion and the fox. It is human nature. We can win the battles but never the war as long as the nature remains.
Not necessarily a sour attitude really. Kinda like a casino. I know I am going to lose but it's entertainment to see if it can work out. I take what I can afford to write off and see how long it lasts. If I win, and sometimes I have, we take the winnings and have a night of fun and it's a pleasant surprise. If not, well, there is no disappointment. Regardless, I do NOT expect to win so I won't pour my life savings or any emotional energy when I come home sans the money.
A pet peeve is when talking about our Corvettes and someone mentions gas mileage. I don't mind that part but there will nearly always be someone saying something about you have a sports car, if you want mileage you should get rid of it and buy a Prius or something.
While I do like the performance cars, anyone who has driven long trips or even daily drives the cars knows that every trip is not full throttle. However many of the posts make fun of the person who wants more than just full throttle all the time.
I want it all. I have a 12 second car that still gets 30 mpg on the highway. If I talk about 12's people are interested and supportive, but if I talk about 30 mpg, they tell me to sell it and get something more suited to mileage.

I flew out to Nevada to buy my 02 Z06 in my avatar... Drove it back and obtained 27.9 mpg Who says you cant have good mileage and hit 12 seconds?
