He bailed after four "negative" posts. That was a pretty fast thaw, even by snowflake standards.

I have never used these services but glad I did read this thread for the heads up about the small print. I feel for the guy, but just bad luck and timing.

Just an FYI

Expedia isn't the only service that works like this.
The cheaper the price, the more restrictions there will be.

Even most hotels own sites will have this same pricing.
You very often see two or three different prices for the same room.
In most cases, the cheapest price will have a "non-refundable" rate.

Anytime you book a service (room, car, etc) pay attention to any restrictions listed.

I have. You just have to accept the fact that for a lower price there are restrictions. IIRC they offer trip insurance at purchase. He chose to cheap out and this time, it did not work out. Instead of getting a job or investment, I choose to blow my inheritance at Vegas to make money. Would you feel sorry for me?

Exactly and they offer insurance for a reasonable price. Skip the insurance and run the risk. Sometimes you win, sometimes no.

There are restrictions on the insurance. I'm not sure if car trouble would qualify.

You can cancel most hotel bookings online. If your hotel's free cancellation deadline has passed, you will have to pay a cancel fee. If you booked a non-refundable hotel, you will have to pay the entire cost of your stay. Check the Rules and Restrictions in your itinerary for details.

To cancel your hotel booking

Sign in to view your bookings.
In Upcoming, select the itinerary you wish to cancel.
In Manage Booking, select Cancel Room and follow the instructions.
If you don't see the Cancel Room option, it is for one of these reasons:
The hotel's free cancellation deadline has passed. You can find details about cancel fees in your itinerary.
You booked a non-refundable hotel.
Your hotel is part of a vacation package booking.
If you need to cancel your booking, please contact us . All cancel fees are at the hotel's discretion.

Good to know

If you want to adjust your travel dates, you can change your booking instead of canceling.
To cancel a hotel booking that is part of a vacation package, read Change or cancel your vacation package.
For refund information, read Refund timelines.
If your booking is managed by a property manager, you will need to cancel directly with the property manager listed in your itinerary.

Maybe it is was the idea that we didn't buy into the "Kill Expedia" thing like the Mountain Run folks that will side with him even though he did stupid things? Although I am wondering if those fine folk will put anything into a cup for him? I offered to put in $0.02 to start it going. Or maybe he is looking for 2 cups 1 girl?
