had the day off and was bored. was searching around the forum and found a few threads on the silverstars. I decided to fill my time I'd go change my headlights. was getting tired of the regular ones on darks streets. while browsing the local parts store trying to find the lights i stumbled on a headlight conversion kit. just keep in mind I was bored and at a parts store. it's like being hungry and food shopping. I bought the kit and some silverstars, they worked pretty good. I can see the road again
Not sure what you mean by the kit. I replaced my bulbs with Silverstars and I am very pleased at how much better I can see at night. An easy switch out. Don't forget to take time to polish up the aluminum trim and clean off the headlamp covers!!
Did you go with the 6054 glass replacements or did you buy the plastic lenses with replacement bulbs.
yes i went with the plastic lenses and the replacement bulbs. they were the silverstar 9003. it's a lighter setup so it will not strain the headlight motor.
If you can't find the kits locally they are available from both Ecklers(high end) and MAD(made in India). I have the ones from MAD. They work and are no problem to put in. Ecklers are Hellas
I probably have the same kit you do. It's the plastic diamond shape housing. I used Xenon bulbs though. I also have Xenon in the fog lights and side markers as well. It looks really sharp, and illuminates 10x better than the factory bulbs.
BTW, the kits in MAD, Ecklers, etc. are about twice as much as what you can buy them in a parts store for.
More details, please! I've seen both replacement "bulbs" at my local AutoZone as well as the 6054 replacement "headlight" (i.e., the whole kit and kaboodle...not just a bulb. I think this is what people are referring to as the "heavier" option). What's the story with this plastic lens kit? Any more info would be greatly appreciated as I detest poor nighttime lighting! :U
yes it's a plastic lens cover, then I bought the bulbs. it was $40 for the kit and 20ea for the bulbs. they didn't have any 6054's in stock and i got tired of driving around trying to find them. I got the kit at Autozone.
"Govenment is trying to pass a bill to make them illegal."
I put a set of the sealed beams in my 86, found a great improvement in visibility... I'd say some of the newer vehicles with the Xenon brites are much more distracting (blinding) head on than the siverstars are.. would they try to ban them also???

I have to ask about the plastic lenses. Did you replace the sealed beam lamp with a plastic unit that holds the SilverStar 9003 bulb? Who made the plastic unit (plastic lense)?

You can get them from Napa. I've heard that AutoZone has both the plastic lenses plus the 9003 bulbs. I would assume that NAPA also has the bulbs.
Just got back from AutoZone and they had the SilverStar 9003 ST bulbs and the only conversion headlamp kit (change to use 9003s) they had was from Pilot. It looked okay and cost $59.99. Is this what you need?
