Default Turbo Project Updates???

Hey guys I'm just wondering where everybody is with their turbo stuff? I haven't heard anything in a while.

I've been waiting for my engine to be done since I dropped it off in January. Waiting on parts and time for my builder to get it done. But I just got off the phone with him and he says we can bolt it to the dyno next week! I'm getting itchy I don't even remember what it was like to drive my car anymore.

Bruce -- Last I knew of you were waiting on some head gaskets. Cometic is moving their shop is what I was told, but I got mine from a dealer that had a set sitting on the shelf took about a week to get them. How is the 16 injector setup going? Any up dates on that?

Chirs -- Are you still planning on redoing the pipes in stainless? Its driving season! Slap that baby together and lets get some track and dyno numbers!

Rick -- I think you ended up blowing your motor last year and haven't gotten it back together. Is this right? I haven't heard about your car in a long time.

Evil Twin -- You had your single turbo setup done by HP Performance, right? Did they ever get the tuning fixed and get some real dyno numbers for you? Also what did you have done to the engine, is it stock?

Anybody else have anything going on???

My engine is essentially stock. Prior to taking it the HP I had a chip, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, high performance MAF, optima battery, borla exhaust, high performance headers from Corvette Central, K&N air filter system, a chip and maybe some other "bolt-on" stuff. It had all made some difference. The car was rated from the factory at 230 (not RWHP). As I said before it dynoed at 231 RWHP in 2003. I talked to HP today. They had been trying to tune with Tuner Cat. Apparently they got little or no assistance from that company with the air/fuel ratio problem. They are now moving to the Tuner Pro software to try to figure it out. If anyone has suggestions I will relay them to HP. The problem is an air/fuel ratio too lean above 4000 rpms. I am in daily contact with HP and will certainly update as new info becomes available.

MN...

you mean we are supposed to finish the projects? and when we do we can actually drive ourcars again.. man i missed that memo.. i never really considered finishing and driving.. i just kinda began to feel the project was a life journey...lol

yes redoing in stainless stee, I have all the Stainless piping here now..l.. still plugging along here on it, just got my new stainless steel flanges in yesterday actually, my intake should be back this week from John at LT1 intake, and also recieved a call from my machinist saying my heads were ready to be picked up in the morning. so as soon as the intake gets here, i will finish the assembly of the motor.. the shortblock is built and bagged waiting for its extremeties to be finished.. I need to glass bead a few more things before I begin the assembly.. this thing is going to look like a Boyd coddington engine before it goes back in the car, and the engine bay will be detailed and painted and made to look better then factory spec.. i figured I waited this long it had better be something for the magazines when its finished..lol

the fuel system is all but finished.. I need a recopmmendation on a brand and possibly a part number for some epoxy to seal off the wires running through the top of the fuel fill plate, but the mounts are welded, pumps are mounted, filters and feed lines and bulkheads are all done, have the fuel line and return run to the engine area.. will finish the fuel railes when the intake is back and I can bolt everything up to it to make sure I have proper clearance with the distributor before i go welding on the rails themselves. just in case i need 45* fittings or something like that.. just nothing really picture worthy as of yet..lol

how about the rest of you guys.. how is it coming along?

Brian
We already installed the cometic gasket last weekend. Rick took my intake home and have his dad doing some machining and my 1.18 a/r modify for VNT as well. All this stuff soon will be done.

I am working on a new project. 409 cid 8:3:1 Dart Little M block with Dart Pro 1 heads.
Liquid to air intercooler in the passenger dash.
Dual nozzle methanol kit.

I really need to make a descison on the turbo size. Thinking of running a Gt series 76. Kind of wanting to step up to a PT88 but with a 4L80E trans with no brake I'm worried about spool issues at the track.

What do you guys think?

They are in the first stages of tuning. The first full pull was 340 HP and 483(!) torque. The torque number is a huge jump. It was 330 prior. They are continuing tuning today. They want to bump it up to about 350-355 hp and 500 torque.

With some tuning it was 351 hp at 4700 rpm and 445 torque at 3700 rpm. I asked them to dial down the torque since I am simply looking to have unique driver, not a race car. I also wanted to have my transmission last for a least a while. They are continuing to tune and are going to do one more pull.

trying to finish up bruce's car first, but mine is also nearly ready for reassembly. Motor is in shortblock form, waiting for me to make a decision on valvetrain, chassis is waiting for the rest of the 10 point. Once I finish bruce's ride mine will be done a few weeks after.

I have installed .060 restrictors on my T3s to try and solve my little oil problem. I have an intercooler on order, it should be here this week, then I can start plumbing it in. I still need a chip for my 7749.

C&S Performance in La. He finished 6th in the pump gas drags with a 388 c.i.d. Chevy motor in a Mustang. We went up to Memphis to hang out with him at the race.

He really knows his stuff, glad I descided to go with him on this one.
He took care of all the head proting, intake porting and custom camshaft. He is a pleasure to deal with.

Those numbers were made with a max boost of 9.3 and an average of 8.8. They completed everything yesterday. There was an issue with the intake tube rubbing on the hood. It is now modified but they need to refinish the tube with jet hot or powder coating. Once that is done they will deliver it. They have driven it on the street. They said it is very responsive. It gets into the boost right away and stays there. I will probably have it this weekend.

I have the car! During normal driving it is the same as before, except the gas mileage is better. It has great accleration when you get into the boost. A 30mph jump seems instantaneous. The turbo sound is wicked. Its like a warning to whoever is next to me. Overall I am very happy. It looks cool, sounds cool and kicks butt.
