I have an 87 with a L98, I rebuilt the motor and have re-installed it.
I can spray some starting fluid into it and it engine runs till the fumes are gone.
Fuel pump runs with the key on, then stops after 2 seconds. I have a FP gauge and it reads 42 psi. I dont think the injectors are firing.
Help please, give me some ideals.
Check the injector fuses; inj 1 & inj 2. then..
The ECM must see a refrence pulse from the distributor before it will fire the injectors. If the fuses are good find the break in the wire from the ignition module to the ECM, if that is good then replace the module.
the injectors may not be firing. one way to check for power to the injectors is with an injector harness tester (got mine from Snap On). you plug it into any of the injector harness sockets and crank the engine. if the light flashes on and off, you know that you have power to the injectors. if not, then it's time to start looking at why the ECM isn't firing them.
in my case a few years ago, i had my injectors cleaned and flow tested at Lingenfelter. i re-installed them, but the car wouldn't start up. after a lot of troubleshooting, it turned out they "froze up".
installed a new set of Accels and it fired right up.
Thank You for the info.......I hooked up a test light to one of the injectors, and it's on steady while cranking the motor. Not blinking as per the manual. Never changed a ECM, is it difficult???
Do injectors freeze from setting for a couple months????

There is always power to the injectors. It is the ground that the ecm sends to trigger the injectors. I'm mentioning this in case your test light was grounded to the vehicle when testing for power to injectors.

changing the ECM is fairly simple - it's located above the passenger side kick panel (under the dash). however, i wouldn't look into changing the ECM until you've definitely verified that it is NOT trying to fire the injectors. and even then, it could be something else.
injectors will not typically freeze from sitting (if they were working previously), but one of the techs at Lingenfelter did confirm that he's had older injectors on the flow machine work fine, only to NOT work once installed in the customer's car (as was the case with me).
Agent 86 is right on - you'll need to hook up the test light leads to both wires in the injector harness to see if it blinks.
