someone posted yesterday that NO ONE makes an emissions legal header for the LT1/LT4 - is this true? or are these headers emissions legal?
Well...yes that's true, technically long tube headers are not legal for street use. However, it's just a matter of who actually enforces that. California does with strict (from what I hear) visual inspections...every aftermarket part needs to have an EO number that states it's emissions compliant. I live in Arizona, and we do not have very strict visual inspections so I never get any slack about having long tubes on my car. Check with some people in your area to see what your local testing centers are like and go from there!

i too am in AZ!
i'm just thinking - i paid $4000 for the car - do i really want to put almost $2000 of exhaust work on the car? seems kinda foolish to me at this point, especially since i really really want a C5!
not to hijack - but PM me - you need to get involved with our local group!
I installed these a few weeks ago on my '96 auto...
They are excellent in fit and quality (the headers). The only caveat is with the extensions if you plan to fit them to an auto transmission. The flanges need to be relocated about 3" rearward to fit. This basically means having the flanges cut and the two pieces welded. Then it'll fit great. There is also the issue of the AIR fitting on the passenger side. It's not EM's problem. Just something of which to be cognizant.

From what I understand, to be "legal" you can't move the cat from it's original location. Most places, as long as you still have the cat, you'll get by.
Correct me if I'm wrong. If I order the headers with the extensions, I get the headers plus the two pipes each side right before the resonator?
I'm pretty sure that's the case. We installed these on a buddies cal a while back. He did not order the extensions, and with a bunch of cutting, wemade it fit. He used dynatech cats.

Thanks for the tips. I just called EM and got their voicemail. I want to order these for my 94. I've got a six speed so I want to make sure there is no other issues like you had with the automatic. How is the spark plug clearance for changes? In the pictures it looks tight. Not like the factory manifolds but still tight.

He was probably on the phone with me. I'm officially in!

Well darn it. I'm playing phone tag with him now trying to get in. I talked to the "boss" and she said to go ahead. This is after she "let" me order wheels Saturday. (She's really not that way, just teasing her.) She said she wanted the extra wheels so we could mount the autocross tires to them!

Got through and placed my order. Merle was very helpful. I got the headers, extensions to eliminate the cats, and the Corsa exhaust, plus all the other stuff to make it all work.
Great guy to deal with. Answered all my questions and explained anything I asked about.
