tonight was nice and cool so I took out the beast for a drive. i couldn't get any traction at all as the car was running like a champ. 2 mins into the drive i was in second gear and I slowly rolled into the pedal. i started to spin the tires bad and just as the RPMs were climbing past 4K and sliding sideways I heard a pop from the rear left tire and then a continuous clunking sound.
At first, I thought I broke the rear end again, then i thought i spun the tires off the wheels so I pulled over and looked underneath the car and saw nothing. no fluids and and the half shafts were still there.
I started it back up and drove very slowly and the clunking sound continued. i was only few miles away from home so I limped her home. As I was driving, i noticed the brakes were grinding at the same time the clunking sound continued. it really sounded like I was driving without tires.
I got home and jacked up the car and I noticed the disc were chewed up by the caliper. I also noticed i would wiggle the wheel around.
I bet its the wheel bearing....or the spindle that goes into the bearing. Or both. Just pull her off and see. But if the teeth busted off either one of those the sounds you describe would fit I would think.
Damn Paul, you are making way too much power now! Sounds like you got that DFI about dialed in! You should get together with Glen down in the SD area. I think he is in Rancho Cucamonga or something like that. He just got his new stroker engine installed in his car and it is almost ready to go. He has a few little bugs to work out of it but otherwise it sounds like a winner once he gets it going and broke in.

yeah thanks TJ,
It's a bummer that i broke the bearing because my ASP 8 rib just showed up today.
If you've identified that its the wheel bearing then disregard this, but sounds like you could have broken a U-joint. As to the wheel bearing its a sealed unit and is only three bolts holding it to the suspension knuckle, but you need a very large socket for the spindle nut. Something like 32mm maybe? I had to rent one from Autozone, but I ended up keeping it
Breaking the spindle shouldn't cause the rotor to make contact with caliper. The bearing hub is what keeps everthing in line. Now if you broke the flange on the hub, that too could cause this contact.
