Hey just ordered the lt4 hot cam for my 89 covette l98 (stock heads) just wondering what kinda roller rocker i should go with. I call a shop here in town and they told me that i couldn't becouse i have a/c and i would need bigger valve covers. is this true i want to jump to 7/16 stud. I fond a couple on ebay if this is not true Item number: 8043092792. thank for your input.
I like Comp Cams Pro Magnums, but a lot of ppl. on here like Crane and Harland Sharp, both of which are aluminum. Regardless of which brand you choose, the drip tabs must go, and some dremeling on the inner 2 holddown supports. I am sure if you do a search, you will find more than enough info to help you decide. Good luck.
Crane gold is a good choice from what iv'e read. One reason is you don't have to narrow the bolt towers on the valve covers to make them fit. Drip tabs will probably need a trim.
I ended up with crane energizer rollers because they were on the jobbers counter, lookin at me everytime i was there.
Did self-aligning 3/8ths 1.6/1 RR's on mine. Did require trimming the drip tabs but otherwise the original valve covers work just fine.
Not to high-jack the thread but I've meant to ask if anyone else has noticed that the valve train is noisier with the RR's. I've readjusted them once but the noise is about the same. Anyone else notice this?
Yep.. For whatever reason rollers make more noise. I also adjusted mine a couple of times using different methods. Same amount of noise.
I installed Comp Cams Pro Magnums a little over a year ago.

Maybe, All I know is that the stock rockers on my l98 were very noisy so I went to 1.6 roller rockers and am very happy w/ the results.
thanks for you help i goning to order the 1.6 rockers. would a 3 angle valve job on the stock heads give me better compresion? I'm try to find a good machine shop in san antonio. Any suggestions?

you dony necessarily have to swap or modify valve covers... i had someone fabricate an aluminum spacer between the heads and covers and they fit perfectly... also the comp cam por magnums are a prety good choice... and if you running anything under 400Hp 7/16ths isnt really needed just an fyi to save ya money .. you can if you want so it will set you for choices down the road
I upgraded to roller tip rockers in mine when i rebuilt the motor.. they fit fine under the stock covers. I believe the full on roller rockers are just a tad too big though...

Moreno and Son's over off Military and Marbach have been doing my machine work sence the 80's never had a problem with anything the've done.
Just had a set of heads done last week, for a 3 angle valve job/resurfacing and new guides cost me $120
Looks like your over off 151 so you are real close to them.

I know the place. How did the 3 angle vavle job come out? See any difference on power?

Can't tell because I'm doing a complete rebuild. Just doing a valve job on it's own will not net you any extra noticably power unless your heads are really far gone, and if your heads are that bad then you're probally in need of a bottom end as well (at the least a ring job. How many miles are on your motor? If you don't have any issue's with your long block now you may not need to mess with your heads or anything, just put your new cam in and a new timing chain.
