427 BBC Conversion FINALLY Started!!!
man i am pathetic...
in that time i've been through 4 relationships, an engagement and breakup, junked my cadillac deville, bought and sold my 06 busa, bought a new 2011 busa and started a turbo project, got into oil/gas work (fracker), still live in the basement, about to put up a 40x60 shop with a pair of lifts, on and on and on and on and on and on...
Yes i still have the car. Yes i intend to finish it. if i had back all the money i wasted (and still do) on countless other dumbass things i could've done 3 or 4 more conversions. no lie.
I also picked up a 08 grand prix GXP. you know...it almost...ALMOST makes me wish i went LSX in the 84. I DO still have a 77 that needs a restoration and a motor...hmmmm....
also the wealth of information shared in here since i started is worth it ALONE even if i never finish the car...which i still fully intend to do. the new shop facilities will help A LOT.
some recent issues i ran into:
Accessory drive - MOTHERF#$*&^#%&*($#*^&. seriously. I moved my steering rack TWICE already only to find out that i really can't get brackets to work with the cog drive for my power steering. several items will still interfere. So i went with the conversion kit to use the 90-94 350 truck serpentine drive on a BBC motor. that ALMOST worked til i discovered i STILL DON'T HAVE ENOUGH CLEARANCE between the rack and the crank pulley...so that sonuvabitch has to come out and i have to move the brackets AGAIN. Another issue is the pressure/feed fitting that goes into the rack. although the pulleys and belt clears everything else i may run into an issue where the PS pulley MIGHT hit the fitting once the rack is moved into the correct position. I need to see if someone can make me a right angle fitting for that connection. i should still have the piece in question here somewhere for reference.
ALL OF THESE ISSUES could've been avoided with a long water pump, the corresponding brackets, and a single groove crank pulley. Instead i went with a SWP due to clearance and ended up having to move the damn rack 3 times anyways. the BBC serpentine conversion now requires a long water pump now so i HAVE to switch...but i already moved the rack so...FML basically. lots of work for NOTHING. haha.
I have a coil and my 6AL box has been wired up for at least 4 years with no movement. it better still work.
distributor is on the list of parts next along with an underdrive crank pulley for the system, the corresponding aluminum LWP, and then it's time to play pattycake with the fuel system.
Oh and my entire interior since molded/mildewed all through it. the ENTIRE INTERIOR needs to come out and be refinished. DOUBLE FML.
