The only thing i have to do is replace the oil cooler sensor located above the oil filter. The engine builder put a plug in there and, and of course it stripped while trying to remove it. im thinking i could drill it out and get my reverse extractor in there. BUT are there any alternatives? IE put the oil temp sensor somewhere else, dispense with it, etc. Thanks, Mark

On mine the gauge isn't all that accurate (compared to scanner)anyways so I could do w/out it. Since you have already started to remove it I think you are hemmed into removing it.

no i havt reached the point of no return yet! so you say, live with out it. I can live with that, for now, so long as no system needs the info.thanks!

Well I always think it's good to have everything working. In my attempt to see if I could get a more accuratte reading on the interior gauge it helped NADA. In fact comparatively to the scanner it is so far from right it is useless, knowing that my oil temp has been about 5* less than water temp. I am not concerned. I can not think of anything in the system that needs oil temp sensor.
i have an aftermarket external oil cooler system, and i could probably plumb a sensor into it rather than here. Iagree its best to get everything working, but after 16 months of delays, every day counts. i estimate savinga week of time if i just leave it alone.
Well, i think im going to not drill it out. thanks! Mark
Got the engine back from Gustafs (local engine builder) last Saturday. He cleaned it up, put new bearings in it, replaced the rings, timing chain, oil pump, set the balancer to TDC, dropped the distr. in. So all i have to do is mount the plenum of the Superram... It took about a month for the heads to be looked at and repaired, and mailed back. The engine is ready to drop in even as we speak. I am probably going to use the Accel DFI Gen VII wiring to get her started. someone "ADFIGUY" on Thirdgen.org is supposed to help me with any questions. My camaro is running pretty well now too, just put a new rear end in it off a 95 last weekend. HOPEFULLY, i will be near the end of my car nightmare!
Hi Guys: If *I* continue to extract that plug, it will end up being one of my famous disasters. I do not have anyone to call upon. I'll end up with a hole in my block, and have to haul it back to some shop which will add at least two weeks to this...id rather get the car running and take it somewhere, or do something else if I can.
OK: The story: almost two years ago bought '90 vette to rebuild. The guy that was supposed to help bailed on me. Knowing nothing about auto mechanics, I pulled engine, had it made into 383. also did a hell of alot of other work, learned alot, although, Upon rebuilding, *I* left out lifter guides, ultimately ruining the engine, and had to have it rebuilt at the cost of $2,200.
My political capital with my wife is used up, my credit cards are are on fumes, and I have to get this car running ASAP so i can drive it to a tuner. It has been on jackstands for 16 months and unusable for close to two years. Getting this project done is almost a matter of life and death, and im not being too facetious.
Sorry to hear about your learning episode
Good luck with getting her back and running. My credit card fumes got sucked up by my PLC.
I hope to be back behind the wheel in the next 2 weeks, as long as i don't have a learning episode too.
yes, we have to look at challenges as opportunities, or go crazy. Overall, I have learned a lot, and am happy enough. My car will be much better than it started out.
