I had only talked to Trevor until today, so I took everything he said that he didn't have fisrt-hand experiance with (such as calling you or talking to your shop) with a grain of salt and didn't bring it up because I couldn't confirm it 100%. I didn't want to make any more of a mess that had been made. So back to my original question, what is it about what Merle said that is "sh*t"?

Didn't see this post...but your PM to me never stated what you were looking for, in fact you asked me "what was fair?" That's not for me to answer. I never "set you up" for anything, I'm just trying to make things clear for me and anyone else reading this. If someone calls someone else's statement "bullsh!t" you have to state why...otherwise it's meaningless.

Did Merle offer you a refund before or after you found out the problem with the heater box?

I understand completely what you mean in this post. Since Merle doesn't post much and I hadn't seen him on te list, I wasn't sure if he still was a supporting vendor or not.
I pm'd him this link last night. From what I've read by both you and him, I was under the impression that things were being worked out.

OK, here's my take on the whole situation.

Gene orders headers, Merle sends then Next Day Air which would be quite expensive from Arizona especially considering the size of the package.

Gene says he wired money to Merle, Merle says he's been paid but not for the shipping yet.

Modifications are needed that were unexpected, but with parts that are not stock replacement, than can be expected, but the installer should be notified(as well as the customer) before any payment is made or any parts are shipped.

Gene calls Merle to explain what's happening, Merle offers his advice or suggestions.
The install proceeds with more problems.
Gene calls Merle multiple times with no return calls for almost three weeks.
Merle finally answers this post(don't know about the phone call, but that should be top priority at this time).
So the way I see it is Gene has an issue with the failure to return a phone call, Merle has a problem of non payment for shipping.
I can't say either is not telling the truth, but those are details that should be worked out off the forum, though the outcome can be posted here.
Whether Merles excuse are lame or not, they sound legitimate, but with the three hour time difference, a phone call at 6:00pm in AZ is only 9:00pm here, so I don't think Gene would have been too upset getting a phone call anytime before midnight.

you should never accept shoddy craftsmanship because you can't stand to wait. In the end you will pay double and have nothing to show for it.

Ive followed this thread since it started and thought pretty much the same thing....but kept quiet
If they dont fit send them back....no matter how shiney and pretty they are
If you want them that bad get the sawzall and make them work...

And c'mon Merle...."Jury duty" WTF..... Maybe I'm not as "Civic-minded" as yourself..... but damn thats lame.
You tell 'em everyones guilty in your eyes and you like to hang'em high.
You couldve been back at the shop in no time

Why do these threads so often boil down to grade school-type bickering?

As a neutral third party it looks to me that a little cooperation on both sides would make for a happier customer and a better-fitting header design.

merle
i call the vette shop just now and was told that trevor called about 4 pm my time yesterday. left a message, which they are keeping for me to hear, to call him back. i told them not to call back.
merle
if you want to be a businessman dont have your employee calling the vette shop asking for photos. is that how your going to make the headers fit better by money i spent to have it done so you can correct your header fitment problem. your the owner of EM and your problems with me, not the vette shop. i would never let a employee of mine call a customer of mine. i guess it work different at your place. that iam having a problem with.
iam the owner, i call. its my business. my customer, not the employees. in all my years in business, i have had to deal with anything like this. if i did it would be only once.
regards

Let EM do the talking for themselves. If they are using you to make their responses then they are even more worthless than I thought. Do your own talking and quit talking for them. You are only making things worse.

Exactly why would showing EM what "The Vette Shop" has done so far be a problem?

Sounds like you're being uncooperative to me. EM needs the photos to help assess...

a. ...exactly where in the installation process you currently are, and what *THE VETTE SHOP* has done thus far to EM's product and your car.

b. ...what needs to happen to get you up and running.

c. ...whether the problems are a result of EM's fab shop, your local vendor's mods, or a combination of both.

Since *you* know the answers to the above questions already based on the info that *you* have access to...giving EM the photos will only reinforce your position and speed resolution, right?

As a small-business owner who's been in remote multi-vendor situations like this in the past, there's NO WAY I'd just cut you a check (or whatever it is you want) after some unknown 3rd-party on the other end of country had been hacking on *my* product without checking it out first.

Personally, in my business, I hire employees *specifically* to handle leg-work and "grunt" jobs...like making calls to arrange for photos, for example. Don't know why this would create a problem.

I hope you get this resolved to your satisfaction as quickly as possible, Bacardi.

I also hope that you accept some responsibility for making the decision to move forward with the installation once you learned the product didn't fit...and won't try to hold EM liable for any damage/fees caused by The Vette Shop's work, unless EM specifically agreed to it.

If any of us learn anything from this, it should be that we should NEVER let a saleman talk us into anything that we haven't decided is what we want. Nobody knows what is best for us better than ourselves.
What a mess....

Mistakes were made on both sides: Headers that wouldn't fit, which were then cut up by the customer. Everybody loses.
The headers are on.
Gene owes $200.
Gene bore extra expense making the headers fit.
Gene says it's not the money.
Merle says he has good reasons for not responding.

Soooo....Merle, make a public apology on this forum to Gene. Gene keeps his (now-fitting) headers, does not pay the $200. Everyone goes home....maybe not satisfied, but done with it.

Merle isn't going to win over bacardioil at this point, but what he does will affect us who are still on the fence.

I'm also thinking barcardioil should get that secretary he pays to come in here and fix up his typing.

I'd say it's gotten back somewhat under control from what it was for a while. I think it still can be productive depending on how it goes from here. I think it's also been productive in recruiting at least one new cadet to banned camp!
