Default It's alive!

Yesterday I completed phase 3 of my C4 mods.
AI 190CC full CNC ported heads, a cam in the 23X 0.57x neighborhood and all of the supporting OH BUY the ways!

It started right up. It idled like crap at the beginning but now it will sit in gear with the AC on w/no problems.
The CC Promags are noisier than I expected, I redid the lash a couple of times and did not shut it up. Today I went to a local shop and the tuner said, "You have the lash right, thats how CC promags sound!"

Once I get this puppy dialed in I'll take it to the dyno and see if it ends up being my daughter's drive to school car.
It sounds pretty good! My neighbor came by and commented that he could not hear his Harley over my idling car.

I hate to be the voice of doom, but I saw something unusual. It appears that the springs are sitting directly on the valve shims. If that is the case, the gold shims are not hardened and will shed alot of metal in your oil. Just thought I would mention it. If the springs are on seats and I just did not see them, disregard my post.

Nope they are lined up like that on every AI head that I've seen.

Best thing is that the intake goes on with out slotting and finagling the bolts like guys have to do with another respected porting company.

Reguardless of whether the porter surfaces the intake port side of the head Like AI does....Most LT1 heads even after a 30thou cut, and on top of it, going to 26thou thickness head gaskets(instead of the stock 49 to 50thou ones).....still don't have to have the intake bolt holes elongated at all.......I just did Lloyd Elliots heads and cam with the above(aprox 55thou) thickness changes, and the intake went on perfect with no slotting or anything...matter a fact the intake port to head port alignment was even spot on.....another friends was the same way.......It all depends on the motor from the factory by the way your heads look awesome.I hope it runs well for you.....Joe

I was not disparaging Lloyd's work; in fact I was within hours of ordering a LE package. However, if you read some of the more performance oriented websites there are plenty of threads with intakes that will no longer fit, even with slotted holes after head porting/decking .

I contacted Phil and to paraphrase his response the springs are on machined & hardened locators and those gold "shims" are hardened.

I hate you.

Mine still doesn't run...

In all seriousness, though, congrats! Can't wait to see the dyno numbers.

Just trying to help. Last motor I saw that had the springs directly on the gold shims, with no spring locators, put enough metal in my oil that it looked like I was panning for gold when the oil was drained. sami85l98 had the same gold shims directly under his springs(with no locators) and it wore almost completely through a few of them in only a few thousand miles. Locators (seats) are always hardened. Yours are black, and I didn't see them because of the color.

I'm so glad that I've obtained zero decking on my new block with no cutting of the block. Thanks to CFI-EFI for that great idea.

Good catch, it did appear as though it could have been that way. That's what we're here for is to help each other and hopefully prevent unnecessary grief. Panning for gold, I like that!

I was ready to puke when I saw it. The gold glitter looks just like bearing material. Very little gold sheds with hardend spring seats.
