Default Engine running awful code 43

Well I think I might have a problem . The other day I noticed when I put my car in reverse it would feel strange . It was almost clunking every few seconds . I couldn't really hear the clunk but could feel it through the floor boards . If I would sit in reverse with my foot on the brake It would just keep on hitting the floor board ( kinda like some-one was underneath the car tapping the floor board with a hammer . It also had kinda a continues whinny rattle sound when it was in reverse with the brake applied ( which I could hear ). I now am noticing it then I'm in drive and OD ( the knocking in the floor boards ) . I have also noticed over the last couple days that when i go over a bump it feels ( through the floor boards again ) like something is loose . Its kinda like something will keep on shaking for 5 seconds after u go over a bump . I checked my codes and I had a code 43 set . After doing some research on here and in my helms it says that a code is do to knock sensor ( which I'm sure is being set by the wrap i feel in the floor boards ) . I have recently taken the throttle body / iac off the car to clean . I think I noticed the problem with reverse b4 i did the TB cleaning ( I can't really remember though it might have started after ) . The shaking feeling underneath after a bump was definitely there b4 the TB cleaning . I apologize for this being so long and complicated but I'm still a newb and have a hard time putting in words what I'm feeling with my car .

any input would be great and thanks in advance ,

PatsFan

Is the check engine light on constantly? Have you cleared the code 43? If not do that first and see if it comes back. If it comes back then its a hard failure and if that is the case the ECM will retard the timing and the engine will run like its very low on power.

nope the CEL isn't on all of the times and I never actually notice it being on ( except @ start up ) . I just pulled the codes because of the way it felt / was running . I did clear the code this morning and the car still feels the same . I rechecked for the code after a quick drive ( I'm scared to run it to much ) and there we're no codes .

Thanks , Patsfan

Your description of the noise doesn't sound like it would be caused by a code setting event. Get underneath the car and look for loose components. Check the exhaust system, the "C" beam and anything else you can get your hands on.

RACE ON!!!

Although I suppose it might be conceivable that a KS code could be triggered by such an event, it's certainly not the cause of it. Anything loose in the driveline, rear end mounting, exhaust and etc. could cause such a noise. It sounds as if a thorough visual inspection should be able to pin it down.

Thanks for the advice guys I'll check it out on Wednesday. I have to work long shifts over the next 2 days so wont be able to get to it till then . I hope it something easy . I just went out to start my car and it was spittering and sputtering . I'm wondering if i have 2 separate issues going on here and maybe i did something when I took the TB off and cleaned it.

Thanks again for the advice , Patsfan

Check your knock sensor connectors. They might be caked with grime or motor oil and throwing a false code on start-up. Mine did that.

Well I jacked up the car , looked around and grabbed ahold of stuff but didn't find anything loose . I took the car down and took it for a ride to see if i could get a better feel of it and boy did i . I started swerving left to right and noticed ever time I swerved right (* passenger side direction ) I would feel the same feeling as when I hit a bump . It would kinda knock through the floor boards and feel loose . I couldn't really feel it in the steering wheel just on the floor boards . As i drove more i could feel it every-time I took a right hand turn . I could also feel it when I pressed the brake but I think that is a warped rotor ( I've been feeling the brakes start to pulse for sometime now ) . What does it usually mean when you swerve or turn right ( while the car is in motion ) and U get this knock / loose feeling ( loose meaning something feels like its flapping around ) ?

Thanks in advance , PatsFan

What it means is that something is loose or badly worn under the car and you need to figure out what it is before driving it anymore. This could be very dangerous.

I've jacked it up and can't seem to find anything loos or worn . I notice it on bumps, when turning right or swerving right and a bit when I apply the brakes . I guess i'll have to bring it to a shop we're I can have them look @ it because I can't find the issue .

Thanks for all the replies and info ,

Are you sure you don't have a broken shock? and it really sounds like you have two issues here.

Is there a easy way to tell if U have a broken shock ? What happens when one does break or what does it feel like ? I also think I have 2 issues and am trying to figure them out one @ a time . The first being the loose feeling ( almost like something is flapping around and U can feel it on the floor board )when I turn right, Hit a bump or apply the brake ( just a little bit )

Thanks for the reply ,

When my shocks were busted/shot I was only able to tell after I took them off. I compressed them by hand- and they wouldn't uncompress.

My ride was really rough, and the steering was a little sloppy.
