As long as I could remember the Nissan had a noticeable valve noise at startup every morning before work. I read the Oil Filter Study http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/oilfilterstudy.html by Russ W. Knize, and decided to switch away from the Fram filters. Immediately after switching to Purolator, the noisy valve train at startup sounds ceased. At the next oil change, as a check on my observations I used a Fram filter again, and the valve noise at startup came right back. I changed the filter out to a Purolator the following weekend and again the noise disappeared. I have never again used a Fram filter. I threw away the extras I had on my shelf for my Vette and Caravan.

Use the above link to review the oil Filter Study and you will know why "Pennzoil and Quaker state also were very bad."They are made by Fram.
I have. My wife's 1990 MPV used to experience valve lash adjuster ticking at cold-start whenever I used Fram filters.

I even went to the trouble of replacing all the valve lashes with new ones and the problem kept happening. Once I got hip to the Fram oil filter scuttlebutt, I went to Bosch, NAPA and other reputable brands and the problem never occurred again.

I don't trust Fram oil filters and I'm soured against their AirHog air filters, too.

These guys are as passionate about oil and filters as we are about corvette's. They have great discussions with a lot of pictures of filters cut open.

I may have missed it but for what its worth the SuperTech filters are actually made by Champion Labs. They make their own marketed under the "Champ" label. Beyond that they make filters for others including K&N, Mobil 1,STP.

As I was working in a full-service gas station back in the early 70's Fram was "THE" filter. If Fram made one that fit your vehicle that was what we used back then. Their quality was well known throughout the industry. Fast forward thirty plus years and they seem to be known for the exact opposite and at the same time a filter from WallyWorld (SuperTech) has gotten rave reviews within both the auto and motorcycle communities.

Ahh...the simple times of the high school years....

Fram and Lee's Two-Stage Maxi Filter used to be the shet back in the day. But Fram's ghetto garbage, now.

The fact no import or domestic auto manufacturer uses them as O.E.M. equipment should speak volumes about their quality (or serious lack thereof).

When I was growing up in the sixties and seventies(yes,Creoleman's gettin' old), Fram was THE brand to get for your oil filter needs. Now(?) Say it ain't so! How does a quality brand turn to disreputable garbage?

I was buying the Super-tech before they were called Sper-tech to support my 5 vehicles including the vette. They started making them smaller with the same number hence less filtering area. So I switched Fram thinking I was getting a much better filter for not much more money. Sounds like I might need a change again.

The Corvette and my 73 Charger get Bosch filters. The DD's get whatever the oil change shop has on the shelf.

I don't know. You still see Lee as a cross reference at many auto parts counters, so I assume they're still manufactured.
