Default Biggest cubes on LTx?

What is the biggest displacement you've seen on an LTx motor and what's the biggest you would go before reliability becomes an issue? I'm thinking of doing a stroker to my 94 Vette. It's a weekend car but would like to keep all the accessories. Thanks.

Biggest I have seen is a 409 (or right around there)...but at that point you're really pushing the reliability. At this point no one makes an aftermarket LTx block with any more meat to it to get the big cubes.

I am with Zix... I have heard rumours of 421s, tho... but 409 seems as far as I would take an LT1 block.

I wish that Motown would do an aluminum LT1 block. That would rock.

i imagine that anything above 409 and you are goin to have to re-sleeve the cylnders then over bore 60 on my 383 project the clearances are tight enough and I have been told that on the LT1/4 block the lower cylnder edge with the rod clearance noch is thinner than on a gen 1 or 3 block.

Can some list all the typical sizes. I have seen 355, 383, 396, and now 409. Some of these are strokers so what pistons do the different setups use. I know it's fairly easy to find info on the 383 and 396. It would be nice to have a full list of all the possible sizes with pistons and crank numbers. I guess rod size should be added also. Or is all this already in a sticky?

Thanks

Without sleeving every cyl the biggest you could probally go is 414 cubic inches, by boring the block .060 and using a 4" stroke crank.

Now if one was so inclined to sleeve every cyl, you could bore it 4.165 with the right sleeves. You would also have to pour the bottom half of the block and have a machinest who really knew how to sleeve a block right, because sleeving every hole can cause the deck to crack and at that point unless you can furnace weld cast iron it's junk. At any rate the head bolts would be pretty thin on one side too, but hey it could be done if one had the time, machining knowlege and money. This would prouduce 436 cubic inches of LT1 using a 4" crank.
