I hear rockers are a good upgrade for power. What ones are the best? Is the 1.6 the ones I want? Will I need diferent valve covers? What kinda power will a see?
You'll just have to break your drip tabs off. Lucky for you that you have the composite covers, it took me a bit of time to mill my cast covers to clear the RR's.
if your 96 is an LT1 the valve covers have a oil tab on them on the top these will obtruct the roller rockers just bread them off since the roller trunion and tip are self oiling via the pushrod
What about 1.6 rockers on a 92 LT1. Will the valve covers clear? Do you have to mill out the head for push rod clearance? Will it run on the stock computer?
Yes, but you'll have to mill the stock cast covers for a 92. The drip tabs and one half of the webbing for the cover bolt spacers has to go. I still have a bunch of magnesium shavings saved to toss in the next bonfire from when I did mine.
Scorpion manufactures an outstanding rocker arm. Comp, Crane, and Harlan Sharp also make very good rockers in the same $220 price range.
Stay away from the cheap roller tip rockers and the Pro Form alum rockers. Some people have had good luck with the Pro Forms (including me once) but alot of folks have had repeated failures. If you are looking to save money on your rockers I recommend CAT (Cal Auto Transpeed), huge selection, cheap prices and good quality.
You will have to cut the drip tabs out of your rocker covers for clearance. You can just grab them with a pair of vise grips and break them off (there is some small danger of cracking the cover this way) or you can use a cut off wheel on a die grinder to cut them off (much safer).

I have the crane gold race 1.6's on mine... they may add HP... others will know more about this than me... man they sure run much quieter than the stock ones.... tons of difference.
I'm a big fan of the summit brand 1.6 full rockers. They are blue and I am fairly sure they are repacked scorpions. Never heard a bad thing on em and they work great for me.
Yes, they probably will, they will break off with a pair of pliers quite easy.
Here is my choice
Dont forget you will need better springs too, mine are also Crane
If you just get roller tips you won't need to do any valve cover modifications, and they fit fine. I got those when I rebuilt my engine, comp cams roller tip rockers.

Most of the advantage is the roller trunion more so than the tip.

Since I have spent the last few years playing with BB boat motors I need to get up to date on the small block stuff. Do the rocker studs need to be replaced? What is the correct way to adjust the new rockers? Will the stock push rods work?
