Default Electic Supercharger

has anyone else here seen electic superchargers on E-Bay? i've seen some by supernatural performance on there. they look pretty junky, and claim 20% more HP under WOT, by stuffing 500cfm into yor intake. I'm not going to buy it but i was curious about the feasibilty of this. I have a 6 HP shop-vac that turns into a blower, and have always joked about strapping it onto my intake for a supercharger! wow.. they look dumb to put it lightly.

I picked up 8 tenths with mine at the strip. I actually installed two, before and after the MAF. Lemme dig up the timeslips...

That is actually pretty interesting. Talk about a dry nitrous system...that certainly would be a way to describe their spray tactics.
However, the results were interesting!

no way . if the electric Supercharger flows 500cfm, at some point it will become a restriction because the throttle body flows more than that

If that was true, I'd use my throttlebody to clean my driveway. A throttle body doesn't flow anything if you don't put an engine behind it. Your engine will not suck 900cfm through a "900cfm" throttle body anyways.

Stay in school.

no **** sherlock, put a vacuum gauge on your intake. If it does not go to zero at WOT you have SOME sort of restriction, maybe YOU should stay in school. PS I build a whole lot of drag race motors, care to talk engine theory? I'm up for a good debate

To evaluate a forced air system look to how much boost it can provide.

A stock L98 TB will flow about 525 cfm as will the MAF, at one atmosphere, but the stock engine will not require that much air.

The trick is to provide the intake air under increased pressure so that the engine can "pull" in more air on each intake stroke.

If your "leaf blower" can do that, then you have a winnah, assuming you can install an alternator large enough to drive it...

What does your vacuum gage have to do with anything? The motor also spins clockwise and the sky is blue.

The leaf blower will become a restriction over 5000rpm on a 350ci motor.

One of the problems of electric superchargers is that they can move a lot of air, but they can not pressurize the system.
They usually use electric motors that were designed to remove fumes from boat compartments.

I am thinking of installing one to remove the hot air from the engine compartment by feeding cool outside air. Maybe it will not work but it is worth trying.

These electric SC threads always intrigue me. The theory behind an electric SC is sound, force air into the motor right? What's wrong with that, granted these things we see on ebay are probably junk but why hasn't this ever been perfected. I mean electric motors can generate massive torque, look at your starter.

Couple a high torque electric motor to a "geared up" blower and why wouldn't that work? Is there a power in and out issue or something?

Look at some of the smaller turbos, hell they're being turned by nothing more than exhaust gas. An electric motor should be able to provide that kind of force right?

If it's a boost vs. rpm matching thing or boost vs. vacuum, hell that shouldn't be that hard to overcome with an AC motor and frequency drive synced to whatever the need be.

Am I totally crazy here?
