My interior courtesy lights do not come on when I open the doors. Nor do they work with the light switch. The door panel lights work if you click them on, but do not work with the door opening as they should. I suspect that this is a fuse, but I have looked over the fuse box, inspected most of the existing fuses and can't see any of them that are blown.
Any help here will be greatly appreciated.
If the lights will not come on when the doors are open or the hatch is open or the instrument light switch is turned all the way to the left.......
The door lights, halo lights, hush panel lights and the light at the rear tire carrier are all activated at the same time.
Here's a couple of things to check.
BTW, the courtesy light system is a 'hot' b+ system.
That means +12 volts is supplied to the lights all the time. To make the lights come on, a GROUND must be supplied to the negative side of all the bulbs. The Light Control Module does this.
1) Check the Courtesy Light fuese in the fuse panel
Probably it will be ok.
2) There is a Courtesy Light Control module up under the 'breadbox'.
This module controls the courtesy lights and keeps them on for about 20~30 seconds after the doors are closed.
It is likely the cause of your problem.
All the swtiched (Both Door Switches, Hatch Switch, Interior Light switch) provide inputs to the module.
The module turns on the lights. The ignition switch is another input to the module. This input cancels the lights when you turn on the key and start the engine.
The Light Control module is sometimes hard to find. I got one a few years ago from, hmmmmm, I fotgot but it's Corvette Parts in Atlanta.
The module is not expensive if you need one and can find one.

Turn the headlight **** fully counter-clockwise.
If all your lights come on like this, you have just proven the fuse, wiring, and bulbs to be working and have eliminated the uncessesary waste of time to check for this with just a turn of the ****. If this is the case, the door ajar switches on either side may be stuck pushed in simulating the doors closed all the time. Dirt makes them begin to bind up.
One on each door near the convertible deck lid release switch.
Thanks guys. When I went back and re-checked everything I discovered that then I turn the light switch all the way to the left, all the interior lights come one. Also, I have replaced the Door Ajar switches and they are working just fine.
Based on your input, I suspect that the problem is the Courtesy Light Control module. Does anyone have a photo of what this rascal looks like?
Thanks for all your help.

Is the Courtesy Light Control module behind the bread box near the VATS control unit?
I know its a bit much to ask, but does anyone know the part number for this module?
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks much !
You're in the right area. It is a small module, about 2" square, typically taped to the harness.
I just dug out my old 85 module and the number on it is 14080625. Evidently, these are pretty hard to find. If you do a search, there are many posts here on how to bypass your timer if its bad (it'll work the lights just fine, but without the delay), and how to repair these units by replacing the circuitry components inside. (radio shack parts).

Over'n'out
I thought the courtesy light module was behind the breadbox in back of the VATS unit.
When I removed the breadbox I realized that I can not get to the Courtesy Light module from there. My question is how do I get to it?
Do I access it from the top by removing the dash pad or from the bottom where the computer control unit is?
Any help you can give me here will be greatly appreciated.
