Had trouble getting home and barely made it in the driveway. I replaced the fuel pump and filter. I am getting code 43 which I understand is the knock sensor. Should I be looking for anything else? Car when accelerating still chugs and starts to stall under load. No engine power. Any other tips???
What year Vette? Replacing the sensor(s) might correct your problem, but I'd test them first before throwing money at parts. You can rent a knock sensor test tool from NAPA and some AutoZone stores.
Your sensor(s) connector could also be caked with grease, grime or oil and is failing to communicate with the ECM properly.
Did this problem suddenly show up or have you been having similiar problems and it just got worse? Any maintenance done on the car recently?
The loss of power during acceleration happened one day over a 90 mile round trip to work and home. No maintenance on the car prior to problem.
Thanks for viewing.
I cleaned the sensor and am no longer getting any 43 code. No service engine lights either. Engine still runs the same, stalls on acceleration. The mystery continues...
HELP
Fuel pressure is 39 at key on. Also stays normal at engine start and keeps steady idle. At acceleration the needle does a dance downward until stalling out at zero. ????
When I tromp on the pedal there is a strange low throaty sound like "frump" up front like a cough. Could I have an exhaust problem that is choaking the engine? It almost sounds as thouugh the exhaust can't escape. The air filter is very clean and I tried solving problem by letting air in without the filter. I am thinking out of the box I know.
I dont know what yr ur car is? but i got 43 twice in last 2 yrs and everytime it comes along with code 33 (maf related). Mine is a 85 so it has a problem with maf burnoff module, replaced that and it solves my problem, both codes gone for good, but as a pre maintenance, i replaced KS as well as control module ECS(on p side bhind the wheel well).
Since u worked on Fuel pump and fuel filter concentrate on Fuel related for now, a fuel gauge will help, still same problem, than disconnect maf wire, n test drive within a block or ur driveway, car will start and idles fine until u drive a block than the problem comes,
So conclusion check Fuel related first than MAF.
but here is a nice description how vette start sequence and trubleshoot accordingly:
