I have a 1988 vette that starts hard usually on the third primimg of the fuel pump stumbles than finally gets up to 1000 rpm, it also has midrange excelleration troble like it is running on 7 cylinders
new plugs wires plugs
distributor cap and rotor
convertor removed
comp test 121-125 on all 8
new temp sensor
Chances are its not the O2 sensor if its a problem on start up... I don't think (correct me if i am wrong guys) the vehicle goes into closed loop until about 160*F.

It's PRIMING. Your car does not excellerate, it ACCELERATES.

excellerate : v, to move with rapid acceleration in a most excellent way!
I agree with All2kool in both respects. The problem is undoubtedly fuel/priming related and with the problems you describe, it most surely isn't excellerating.
If the fouling is due to a rich condition, I'd say that the #8 injector is leaking. This is probably the cause of the hard start condition and the mid-range acceleration problem. With 123k on the (most likely) original injectors, you really need all new or rebuilt injectors. Some year Vettes (89+) have multec injectors which were poor quality when new, and not worth rebuilding. The factory 88 injectors were Bosch or Lucas, and can easily be rebuilt by Rich at Cruzin Performance. You could also order replacements from several CF supporting vendors.
The 85-88 C4s have a special 9th injector that is used only for cold start conditions. There are no new replacements available form any OEM or after-market supplier. I would suggest that you have your original Cold-Start injector pulled and shipped to Rich for testing and reconditioning when you do the other 8 injectors. Replacing all of the injectors is a long one-weekend job that you can do yourself for a couple hundred dollars less than a shop would charge. Lots of labor, very little needed in tools or material.
