I know i'm going to catch hell for this, you know fix one problem before you move on to something else. Well the delivery guy came and dropped of my new '88-'91 starter. To be honest it doesnt look all that much smaller, but enough not to rub I suppose. It was also about just as difficult to get it in there as the old one, go figure. So now its in there and i'm connecting the wires... the battery cable is too short to reach the terminal!
I thought you guys said it would fit, well crap. I'm about 6-7 inches short. Any easy way to fix this?
Wow how the heck did it end up 6-7" short. I could understand an inch or less but that much. I would say for a temporary fix you could go to the autoparts store and buy one of the battery cables that have the bolt holes on both ends. I believe they are called interconnection cables. Or perhaps one of the ground cables that can be used to bolt to the engine to VRAM. That way you could use it as a jumper lone for the extra few inches. Bolt the end of the cable to the existing battery cable and then to the starter. Make sure to insulate it very well so the exsposed spot dosent ground out. Tape it or whatever with electrical tape. I am assuming you mean the really thick battery cable here by the way. Again I would do this as a temporary/troubleshooting fix. Also you check any of the other cables that branch off the starter just to make sure they are all good.
