These look like a good idea; I did some additional research and it seems they may need different stem locks that have lash cap recesses?

OK - here is what I have so far.

The measuring pushrod, set at 6.950":

The position of the rocker tip in this configuration (no pre-load):

Another valve with the same pushrod length, this time after the 'pen on the tip' technique:

The amount of material taken from the base of the rocker arm:

..and the resulting clearance (with preload) at the stud (need to look closely)

I may not go with the lash caps approach - I would need to get new valve stem locks and retainers to get them to fit. I'm reasonably confident with the 'remove material' technique.

Paging "rklessdriver" - is this approximately the LITTLE that you referred to?

Thanks!

You can retain the retainers that you have, all you may need is the new locks which would be easy to replace. All you need is this tool from Crane:

http://cranecams.com/?show=browsePar...Number=99473-1

And you need a compressor to pressurize the cylinders with in order to remove the valve keepers.

Tom

I can tell from the pics he has 7 degree locks and retainers. The only locks cut with a relief for lash caps I know of are 10 degree. The lash caps would be a fine solution to this problem thou, provided he was willing to buy new 10 degree retainers and locks (and hadn't already modified one of his rockers).

IMO The amount you have removed from that rocker will be fine. It won't hurt anything. I pulled a Batten headed Olds drag motor apart (I did not build it orginally) last year for a friend of mine with the same type Harlan Sharp rockers that had about 3 times that amount taken off the bottom. Rockers were 6-7 yrs old then and are still running fine.

Thanks for your advice. I will let everyone know how it turns out; I have other aspects to this project that mean the car will not be running until January.

Cheers
