Electrical - what's going on here?
I was taking out the Electronic Climate Control box today.
The car is an '88 automatic. The negative battery cable was disconnected. I had to turn on the key to move the gearshift lever.
When I turned the key on, I heard a whirring sound like a motor running in the passenger seat (sport seats). I couldn't track down exactly where the noise was coming from before it stopped. It lasted about 10 or 15 seconds. The passenger seat doesn't work at all (on the to do list).
I disconnected the positive cable too and continued with what I was doing.
What could cause something to run with the neg. battery cable disconnected? Am I missing something obvoius?
One other question? do you have an alarm system? some of the high-end alarms (for Corvettes or other premium cars) have their own batteries, that could run something for at least 15 seconds.
