I'm all for keeping it stock if thats what you like, but my goal was to allow my car to breathe better, which equals better gas mileage. Of course more power is fun too

I do believe there is a limit to what is actually useable on the street and I think 300 HP is plenty. The rest is for the track. But like others said different folks, different strokes

The ONLY reason I bought my present car was because it had over $20K worth of mods done by a well-known tuner. I didn't want a stock car, even a Grand Sport.
I've owned 3 Corvettes - 2 new, my present one bought used, and all of them modified.
It's not everyone's cup of tea but it's what I like.

I'm guessing the car is a 6spd? Mine is an auto and at 5700 rpm, I was at 134mph. You were only 3 mph away from 150. Think you might try to reach it some day?

More mods the better! I get bored too quick with stock stuff! I like to have something up on the other guys out there with stock or lightly modded cars... Thats just me though.

I think what you are trying to say is that the original owners used dubious techniques to try and improve the car - and therefore while it drives well you dont trust the work and therefore dont trust the car.

You mentioned oil a few times - once you get those leaks under control (notice I didnt say fixed - most C4's ooze a little bit of oil..) AND have driven a few times reliably, you will feel much better.

BTW - you MUST post pics of the intake ducting, it sounds like something that deserves to be on the Redneck hall of fame....

...so do you feel the same after work has been done or is it just me being picky
I say it's just you...

I do all my own speed mods save for exhaust work so feel 100% about them. Plus it's really things like tires and wheels that I rely on when driving near top end.

i have corrected most of the work done by this guy(paint-air breather-fuel rail covers-tires and rims-oil leaks-missing bolts) but i still worry about the internals so the way im looking at it now is i will just replace the motor if it explodes- car runs great very fast and looks good also, a couple more things and it will be done, rite now after paint and parts i only have 8,000 into her but i will prob drop another 1000 or so before its compleat

i cant understand why people try to make there car faster than it was stock this is my 4 vette i did 2 frame offs and gave that up, then in 1999 picked up a 1994 vette that was stock that car would fly i took it up to 147 mph no prob and i felt safe now i have this new 1994 vert that has a cam headers and who knows what else ya its VERY FAST(burn rubber through 2nd gear)and sounds great but i just dont trust it after some one messed with it so do you feel the same after work has been done or is it just me being picky
I don't like the feeling that the car has been molested by someone else, but can't resist the urge to mod it myself. Plus, the 85 was cool, but not that cool. Anything that makes it faster makes it cooler, and probably more reliable. Everything is getting old.

Would that possibly explain the ram air mod????
You bought it knowing it was a race car and are worried because it has been modified.
Maybe you should have bought one off someones grandmother?

Default A "Perfect Car" you say....

Robert

Where are you from?

I wish you would fill out your profile. Might help us figure your lingo out.

And the orgional question....

A C4 corvette; in stock form, is not a "Perfect Car", therefore we must modify them, in an attempt to make them perfect.

Understand?

I bought my 1988 Z52 corvette almost 3 years ago.

It was unmolested other that the exhaust system from behind the exhaust manifolds back.

First thing I had to do; before I could even drive the thing, was get rid of the terrible 4+3 manual/automatic combo transmission.

I think you should have owned enough corvettes; by now, to know that the C4 corvette is not perfect.

I found out the first week I owned mine, just how unperfect they can be.

Now to do something about the 245HP.........yup......not a perfect intake on the L98.

Then there are heads, cam, headers, brakes, various suspension, GS stripe that they should have painted down the center of my vette.

ETC.

But I can admire a perfect unmolested corvette too.

The great thing about these cars is that they are easy to work on, so have the cam and headers removed and call it a day.

I still don't understand how someone who loves Corvettes could put one of those kits on their cars. They just ruin the appearance, IMHO.

Maybe some day some one will explain it to me.

underhood engine mods are smart. in fact, mandatory. i'm one that also thinks stock base L98/LT1 performance is underwhelming. in fact, wholly inadequate. i'm also assuming the work is done by someone with experience AND competence, and the parts selections match appropriately.

you should appreciate that someone actually worked on "fixing" the stock performance, which in my opinion was straight-broken, right out of the factory. the previous owner was smart and should be applauded.

and now's your chance to reconsider that body-trinket crap thing. get rid of it, THAT will devalue your car, all while looking silly (woefully out of date at best) and doing absolutely nothing to the driving experience -- which is the point that counts. that package will destroy your car.
