I would say that it depends on what was done to the car and who did the work.
Different strokes for different folks.
Some people would rather trade off reliability for performance and some people would rather have reliability. Depending on what is done to the car i believe you can have both but it might cost more.

After reading your post though, I can't help but ask why you bought a car that has been modified if your not comfortable driving a modified car?

I think that's a good price for a 94 convertible with those miles.
i understand why you bought it.
Stock or messed with, I think we are all taking chances buying used cars unless we know the entire history.

If regular maintenance wasn't kept up or if it was raced regularly for years i would be a lot more worried than I would be because someone swapped the heads and cam.
The work could have been done properly and the car could have been babied.

"Messed with" to many people (incl. me) = upgrades...nothing wrong w/ that. I "messed with" my car and it's far better in every way than it was stock.

IMO, a stock C4 is far from "perfect".

Simply because we can.

I would not look at simple bolt-ons as being a great detriment to reliability. You are not going to do damage to your car by adding headers. By doing the simple bolt-ons, you can increase the efficiency of the engine. You're not creating power from nothing you are freeing it up.

I cannot see myself leaving a car stock, especially a car I bought for fun, to enjoy. A car built from the factory is a compromise between requirements, cost and power. It's built for the masses, modifying the car makes it personal.

I can totally understand why you wouldn't want to buy a car somebody else had messed with, because there is a large variation across skill levels regarding DIY performance tuners.

However, I can't imagine why anybody would want to NOT upgrade the performance of their own Corvette, if they wanted a faster car and if they were comfortable with their skills, tools, and workspace. This is especially true with C4 Corvettes. These aren't rare, exclusive cars that are going to take a huge drop in value if they're modded. In fact, they're actually pretty cheap, which is why they're so attractive as a track car. They're like the fox-body 5.0 Mustangs were 10 years ago. You can buy one cheap, install the safety equipment, wheel/tire/brake/exhaust/suspension upgrades and hit the track, all without worrying about de-valuing the car.

Sorry, but you are complaining about the fact that the previous owner installed a cam and headers, but you only paid 6500 for the car w/ 77K on it? And it's a vert? If you are so into originality, then why is the world are you putting one of those butt ugly Greenwood kits on the car? The great thing about these cars is that they are easy to work on, so have the cam and headers removed and call it a day.

I still don't understand how someone who loves Corvettes could put one of those kits on their cars. They just ruin the appearance, IMHO.

Maybe some day some one will explain it to me.

OH MAN you have that RARE optional factory rear downforce plate across the back.

I will have to disagree that your car is stock!! You are missing the ashtray insert that goes in the console cupholder
