i built a 434 out of this block before, it wasnt easy. lots of grinding
I'm looking to build something fairly simple, with a forged lower, prob a 406 with 6 in rods, but open to anything as long as it is not a major PITA,any suggestions?

You can carbon copy the setup that ski_dwn_it and Corkvette ran years ago. (the 406 or 412, whatever it was). If I recall that was a low 11 second N/A stupid fast build.

yeah, a 406 is a better choice. 434 is a pain in the *** to build out of a stock block. i see your from michigan, me 2.... let me know when you start building the thing, i can help out and i know all the best shops to get stuff done if you need anything

I wouldn't say building a 434 with a production block is that big of a deal... If you get a connecting rod that isn't bulky on the big end the grinding isn't that huge of an issue. Heck, the only time we mess with a raised cam and spread rails block is when we are looking for 450+ cid, not a 434...

Just so I have this straight. Building a 434 cubic inch engine with a production 400 block isnt a big deal? Havent seen to many guy do it. They seem to go aftermarket.
Changed it for you CFI. Happy now.

On the flip side, I have seen most use a stock block.
No, building a 434 with a production block isn't a big deal. Clearance it and put your parts in; the biggest part of the job is all the mock ups to check clearances, but all of the engines we do get mocked up at least 3 times before final assembly anyway. I'm not saying that you can slap it together in 4 hours, but it should not be thought of as something that's really hard to do. It simply takes thought out part selection and some patience throughout the build; two things that should be done on any engine build stroker or not... Now on some engines we do go aftermarket but simply to get a raised deck; this allows us to have a meatier piston and a longer connecting rod for engines that make a lot of power and get abused. On anything that can actually go down the street without eating up expensive valve train parts in a hurry, I wouldn’t worry too much about running a 1” compression height piston and a 6” rod with a 4” stroke in a production block. Just my .02.
Wake up and smell the coffee wouldn't of sounded a bit better! You better work on that one.
"wouldn't of sounded a bit better"??? If it wouldn't HAVE, maybe that is why I didn't say it. Work on what? Reading the topic of the thread? I can see it is a good thing I quoted the post before it was surreptitiously changed. I'm awake and following the thread. What's your excuse ?

RACE ON!!!
I dont need an excuse when your involved. I have talked to guys that go to your track. They have nothing postive to say about you.
I am glad your awake. That makes me feel really good.
Now back on topic. How well would the 434 hold up (400 block) to abuse of say a "200 shot" of the giggle gas? I am wondering about the strength of the block?

Every casting is different due to minor core shifts .
How well it holds up depends on too many variables.
