Default Lt 4 Retainers

I am installing Lt 4 springs and retainers on my 1990 L98 alum heads. Will the Lt 4 retainers alow more lift than the stock L98 retainers? If so how much? I know that the L98 stock retainers will hit the valve guides just north of .480 lift.
Thanks

Not sure about that but LT4/ZZ4 springs are good for .525 + lift.
Are used in the hot cam kit

If I remember when I had my LT4 rebuilt the Machinist told me that LT4 Ovate springs had to have all the LT4 retainers and locks as they were specific to the LT4 springs and hollow/soium filled valves. I think I would look at the L98 retainer and see if it is in the same position as the LT4 and compair the dia. of the two different valve springs. Measure how far up on the L98 valve is the groves for the locks and do the same on a LT4 valve. Valve stem height is a factor too.

The oval wire ( ovate) on the LT4 springs will compress father than LT1/L98 round wire springs so you can use a higher lift cam. Before they coil bind.
I have never owned a L98 but I am sure some of the other members who have does this will make a post.

I'm not familiar with the 113 valvetrain, but there was no way that any part of the 128 spring parts(except locks) were going to work with my LT4 springs. Check the spring with your base and cap, you may find the same.

You're good to .525 since the ZZ4 head is the same as the L98 alum head running the LT4 springs/locks/retainers, and the ZZ4 is good to .525. You don't need the LT4's lightweight valves to achieve that lift; ZZ4 & L98 valves are the same.

Thanks everyone. I will get into it next weekend. I don't have a L98 retainer to compare until I get mine apart.

Correct .
The 128's have the thick spring seats and exh rotators. You have to shim the springs to get correct installed height

That's not the problem I was getting at. The LT4 spring doesn't fit the L98 base and retainer very well due to the L98's hardware is designed to have a damper spring inside.
