Well black, Mezinere is the type I have. I understand that CSI has started to make them for LT1's also. Although I cant really say how well the LT1 CSI pump works, I do know that they build good pumps for L98's. Moroso also builds one that works for your car. I just dont know how you re-route the belt on L98's (LT1's are mechanical not belt drivin) The LT1's are around $200 Again I'm not sure about the L98 price hopefully someone with L98 experence will chime in. :seeya
The CSI ones are junk! Don't use them.
The Meziere ones are $199.95 and we typically have a few in stock.
Good Luck,
Chris, Really? Ive got a friend whos 67 camero uses a CSI on a 327 and he has not had a problem. If there that bad maybe I should ask him to replace it. what are the common problems? hes had this one for about a year and a half If I remeber correctly.
Let me clarify.... the CSI for the LT1 sux! the impeller design is very sub par and they do not cool as well as the Meziere. Phil "401Vette" has used both also and has side by side pics of the two impeller.
I am sure some of CSI's pumps are good. Just not this one.
Thanks,
I have the meziere and I have not had any cooling, or electrical problems because of it. I drive my car EVERY day in any weather, it is my only car. Since I put the pump on it I've put on about 9000 miles and I fully expect it to last another 90,000 miles. The argument about it taking more power to drive the pump is obviously made by people who just want to argue. You can argue all you want but dyno results won't lie. I know several other people who use these pumps and don't have ANY trouble. On the LT1 in particular there are a few other benefits.
1. It won't kill your opti when it dies.
2. You can flush your cooling system very quickly with the motor cold.
3. Should it quit working you can replace it with another electric pump without having to remove the entire water pump housing.
4. You can remove the water pump drive gear and use a better timing chain.
5. 10 free horsepower is nice as well.
6. Combined with a manual fan switch you can cool your car very quickly between rounds at the track.
Since you people like to do math, lets do a little for the reliability standpoint. Meziere claims the pump will last 2500 hours or more. That doesn't seem like much, but think about it differently. If you average only 30 mph when you drive your car, that's 75,000 mile life span. Not bad for an electric pump. Now if you average 50, that's 125,000 miles, easily the lifespan of a stock pump while makeing more power and easier to replace when it dies. You can't really lose. Mackey, I'm sorry yours didn't work out, you almost had to get a defective pump from the start.
Ah yes, let me clarify. Mine is the heavy duty unit. It's about an inch longer, so basically a bigger motor. Everybody I know who has one went with the heavy duty one, the price difference is really very small.
To be honest, I think if Mackey would take the time to adjust his pump, I do not think he would ever have a problem again, but there is always the chance of getting a bum pump also.
Good Luck,
hello all,
Nathan nailed it a few posts back!! my initial install wired the pump to a fan switch relay... mistake on MY part.. this works great for 92-93 but not on later models as the system is wired differently.... also mine blew when a welder had grounded near it while doing my exhaust.. there was a closed circuit while he patched the last few leaks, and i am leaning to believe that had somehting to do with it.. since then i wired the switched voltage signal to the switched coil lead... same lead MSD uses to switch on the box... and have had no problem what so ever out of the meziere... if you get one be sure to check clearance of the impeller and the housing.. this has a small hex adjustment on it.. mine was fine.. my fathers needed a slight adjustment.. if not adjusted correctly it make be pressed against the housing and cause a binding which would certainly heat and burn out the motor prematurely.. but this is found in the accompanied installation instructions... so be sure to read before you plug and play.. I recommend it whole heartedly.. nothing but benefits when installed properly.. and again way too many advantages of using it over the stock inadequate setup.. hope this helps!! and i also think this pump is everybit as reliable as a stock unit.. i daily drive my vette and have 7000 miles since install without incident since proper installation wiring.
Chris,
I think the Meziere may have caused the flames out your tail pipes! ;)
Are you sure you have the impeller adjusted correctly?
As Mackey stated on here, his pump was working intermittently. Now, my experience with electric motors is, when they quit, they QUIT! If it was intermittent, the impeller was either binding and needed to be adjusted or the wiring was faulty.
No big deal either way.
Good Luck,
In response to Nathan's HD pump reply; the physical size is note the major issue,
unless you don't have space available. I also posess a HD unit. The HD unit operates
at a higher rpm, to achieve the higher gpm rating. The down side to the HD unit is a
reduced hours of operation rating of the HD unit because of the higher rpms. (minor
but still there) The hours of operation rating of @ unit is obviously set by Meziere.
Check 'em out.
Meziere makes a pump for a regular SBC, this would probably work for the L98, as for the belt I don't know. You probably have to re-route it or get a shorter one, or both. I can't think of anybody on the forum with an L98 and an electric pump.
Here is a very informative site on the installation as well as Dyno graphs. It answered all of my questions! I'll plan on installing one next year (or when my pump dies) whichever comes first! http://www.projecttransam.com/projects9.htm
