I need Help!! I have a 88 with a 383 and modified TPI to auto trans.I have Headmen headers that fead 3" pipe to a dual inlet cat to single 3" that goes to 2.25 split to two muffs. That is a mouth full.I have a reonating or drone at 1800-2300rpm that give a headache. If under WOT it is ok.I have had a turbo muffler set up and flowmaster set up with nearly the same result.Turbos were betterbut not great. My question is , are there any muffler that dont produce this drone or could I use a factory muffler without much loss.I drive this everyday and I cant afford Excedrin anylonger as gas is crazy! Help would be appreciated!!!

You can go to a factory style muffler and it will help. Corsa's should also help but they are expensive. The headers with a single cat cause a lot of the problem.
I think the ones I had on my 86 were Dynomax, but I blocked one of the four outlets and it made a big difference. Didn't eliminate it but it was much better.
I've had it with my loud, leaky, droning pos exhaust too. The drive home today finally pushed me off the fence to bite the bullet and do something about it.
This happens with the Magnaflow catbacks. LD85 found that stuffing the inner pipes of each muffler with steel wool helped with the resonance and lowered the decibels.
I've also heard of people with X-pipes having less problems. You'd have to redo your center exhaust section.

Turbo and Flowmaster's have similar sound-deadening properties (i.e., not much).
On mine, I found that adding Magnaflow front cats made all the difference. I had loud side-pipes after the main cat, so I bet straight pipes after the center cat would still sound great on yours! A bonus would be the ability to pass a visual -- if ever needed.
If possible, make sure tail pipe extends a little past bumper. NOT TOO much though! Otherwise, you a busta you shin!
B&B isn't any better. I may need to go to a Corsa setup if I can't get the drone under control. They're about the only ones out there that will do what you're looking for.
Thanks all, sounds like I am not the only one keeping Excedrin in business! Will try to cats and new muffs.AI already have a crossover so I should be ok on balance!
No resonance, great sound. Sometimes ya just gotta spend the money. If you are keeping the car, the payback in satisfaction on having a car that doesn't drone is worth every cent.
Put Corsa from Jegs on my 89. Very nice and almost no drone. Have had many comments on them. All good.
Same here, I took off Flowmasters and went for the Corsa System. Best money I've spent on the car to date. You won't be sorry with Corsa's. (until you have to pay for it, that is)
