Default 88 stops intermittently

Guy has a 88 auto.that stops after driving maybe 15 or 45mins and no noticeable reason. Conveniently stopped at a mechanical shop and they tested that there was no pulse at the injectors but a spark if only weak . By the time the tow truck came to take the car to the auto electrician vehicle had started. This is typical when it stops on him whilst out on the road , he waits and it starts up .
At 1st one thinks the vats are involved but they should not after starting. Any suggestions please .

Check your car for trouble codes first....then go from there. If no codes are present ohm out your fuel injectors. Each should be around ~15 ohms.

The ignition module in the distributor could be faulty. Your symptoms are consistent with a module failure. They fail when they heat up and then when it cools down it runs again. I haven't personally had this failure but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Cheap easy fix if it is the problem

The module sends a reference signal to ECM. No signal, no injector pulse.
Worth a look and a cheap part to replace.

It sounds like the Ign.module but don't rule out the ECM. WW

In my '85 it was the ECM, it would be worse on a warm to hot day but would run forever in the winter. I've suggested this before but it bears repeating, Get an ice pack, one of the ones in a plastic bag that you put in the freezer. Once frozen, wrap it in a towel to keep things dry (condensation) and place it on the ECM. Go for a drive and see if the problem goes away. A nice, easy, and FREE test.

Yup. Sounds like a bad ICM to me, too. My only warning was a light, intermittent miss barely noticeable at idle. Then one day, the engine just died, resulting in a crank, no-start condition.

When my ICM died, it took my coil with it and I ended up replacing both parts.

I'm thinking NO to the ignition module as spark was present when it was stopped and tested by the mechanic and no pulse at injectors but the ecm is looking likely .
Maybe a good idea the ice pack but the heat may be generated on the inside of ecm but worth a try .
