Fuel regulator (Good or Bad)
Ok here the question. If your fuel regulator is bad. Would it be ripped or dry rotted? Here's mine. Not ripped or rotted. But did have some dirt in it. I was losing fuel pressure. It dropped like a rock. I have clean the regulator. Should I put it back together or should I wait and buy a new one.

I agree with MK 82.....did you isolate the loss of pressure to the reuulator? The gasket looks good from the picture. WHen you pulled off the rubber line to the FPR, was there fuel in the line?
I would guess that your real problem is with the check valve in the puel pump.

I put a new fuel pump and a new filter on. I ohmed the injectors. the fuel pump was bad. Car still won't start. So can that new pump be bad. I pinch the return line off and it builds pressure and holds but if I don't pinch it off. It drops like a rock. Thanks

Also, the problem with putting the old FPR back in is that the red silicone gets old, and disturbing it "fractures" it, and in a short time, it breaks down and begins to leak.
Have you ever wanted to take a hammer and just start smashing windows and plenum and runners.
This is what I have did to the car and no start.
New fuel pump
New fuel filter
New fuel pressure regulator
New fuel relay
ohmed all injectors (16ohms)
took low amp bulb just to see if any pulse. (yes)
Fuel pressure is between 46lbs and 48lbs. Still drops off after I stop cranking. It never hits a lick. Use starter fluid and starts right up and dies.
I'm so lost and mad. I spent everthing I have on this car. Car ran perfect befor I tore it down for paint.
Should I hear the injectors when the key is turned on or while I crank. Thanks.

I didn't see that you changed the fuel pulsator module in there any where? 1 or more fuel injectors could be stuck open too...which could explain the leak down.
Ok so I've had a similar issue like your describing after my '89 set for 3 or 4 days. The car would run all day on ether.....it turned out to be bad fuel injectors.....they ohm good and I could run them with a injector bench tester but they would not work on the car. Might be injector time for you too.

I agree, the fuel pulsator is in the tank attached to the fuel pump outlet tube, and is a rubber bellows that should take up the shock of the pump pulses.
These leak, and they are in the tank, and only leak after you button it up and turn the key.
try one more time and take the pulsator out of the system, an use a short piee of high pressure fuel injection hose (about 3 inches worth)
and 2 hose clamps, and tighten it in the tank with 2 bolts hook up all the hoses, and try it again with the fuel pressure gauge attached.
If you have no external leaks, you only have one avenue left......... go for whatever is out of your eyesight when it is running.

Years back I replaced the pulsator on my 86s fuel pump with a length of hose and two clamps and never had the pressure-falling problem again.
I drove the car all over the country with it that way and never had a single problem. Dallas to Denver back to Dallas; Dallas to NY, down to Charlotte then back to Dallas, etc.

For what it's worth, my vette still started and ran fine when I had the problem with pressure loss as soon as pump was off. My loss was at the pulsator and hose and clamps did the trick, but it didn't change how the vette ran.
It's obvious that it's a fuel delivery problem, and to me it looks like it's due to the injectors not supplying any or enough fuel.
Are both banks of injectors getting 12 volts with ignition on ??
What was your project that lead to the no start problem ??
This is from my 86 manual, so disregard the ECM connections, etc, but it may help.

AGENT 86.
Your on to the same thing that I'm at.
This where I'm at. I took the fuel rail off and then turn the car over and no fuel coming from the injectors. Their dry. so that is telling me that it something not telling the injectors to spray fuel.
Where do I check the power to make sure I have 12 volts to both the injector banks.

I put a small hose and clamps and put inplace of the Fuel Pump Pulsator.
Thanks
