Default E-brake help on '88

OK, im an idiot , i can admit it...

Basically, i took off the ebrake handle on my 88 to do the interior about 3 years ago. Last night tried to reinstall it. FOR THE LIFE OF ME, i cant see how the hell it bolts in there..There are 2 nutserts in the frame (8X1.25mm), and just a plain hole. It dosent seem any of the holes on the ebrake will line up with the frame.....

To make matters worse, my cd rom with all the beautiful diagrams of the c4 and c5 dosent work for some unknown reason....The c5 part of it does though.....Of course, cause i dont own one........

1) Can someone post or send the exploded view of the ebrake and mounting hardware?? Or even a good pic of it installed?? My seats are still out so its clear as day in my car (so i have no excuse for my stupidity)

2) Does anyone have the c4 cd rom they would be willing to trade or sell???? Since i found out mine dosent work anymore im on a mission. All i needed was that disk-now im screwed......

Thanks all!!!!!!

My '88 FSM shows one bolt/screw going through the center of the handle assy and the other bolt/screw going through a thole in the rear tip of the assy; both blots/screws screw into the inner door sill.

Now that you mention it I guess the center bolt would be longer, though the FSM does not call it out as such.

When I bought my '89 vert, the parking brake lever cover was in the passenger floor and the front (center) bolt was missing. Of course the parking brake was not useable (not good with the ZF6). The nutsert in the frame was missing as well. The dealer could not get one and I had to track down a yard with c4's that were cut in half so that I could reach inside the frame to remove the nutsert. What a major pain that was to get it all back together. Luckily, after removing the door sill carpet, I found a small hole to place the nutsert behind the parking brake. Of course I kept dropping it inside the frame and fishing it out. I eventually secured the nutsert with the bolt and everything works well. All of this was after I had found out that the '84-'87 cars use a welded nut that is of a different size. On the second trip, I picked up the nutsert. Whatever you do, don't drop the nutsert into the frame.

17 is the plastic cover, 20 is the brake light switch.
The top drawing is from my 86 FSM.

Ok, found a tupperware with a ton of interior screws and things...Inside it were 2 bolts, very clean. They are both torx bolts, both 8X1.25mm....The one is an inch long, the other is 2 3/8" long (overall)..The long one does say 10.9 on it, the short one dosent..So im exceited thinking these are the ebrake screws, when i find an engine bolt box and there are a few of these screws...
I know its possible they used these bolts elseware, but im good at tagging and bagging parts. If these were in an interior tupperware, they must be from the interior....
Ok,so - Does anyone know if the ebrake bolts are indeed torx heads? I do remember the seat belts were FYI....
Thanks again

Going by the info I posted, part #16 is used twice, both being 8x1.25x25.
I'll take a look at mine after work and see if I can see what style bolt is used.

My FSM shows them as Torx; torque down to 18 lb-ft.

On my car, the only way i can see it bolts in there is thru the rear most hole in the ebrake bracket, and then the hole thru the pivot point. The pivot point bolt would have to be longer. Thats why i dont understand why they list 1 size bolt. I actually made a rubbing on paper of the 2 holes in the frame (the car is 45mins away) to confirm im not crazy.

From the diagram in the FSM it indeed looks as though the pivot point bolt would need to be longer though they show both the same length.

Are both mounting holes in the sill at the same level or is the one for the pivot point polt raised??

One is above the other as far as height on the frame goes, but i know what you mean - no, they are flush with each other.

So, if the difference in depth (from back surface) of the two holes in the E-brake control assy is ~1 3/8", I'd say you found the two mounting bolts.

2 diff length bolts. I love it........... Guess i shouldnt rely strictly on the parts breakdown (microfische) to find the correct bolts,etc.......
